Author's Note: I promised you guys a new series after Monique and Adrian, so here it is! Instead of them, it's all about Alice. The epilogue of Running was in her point of view, so Enemy Lines is naturally in it as well.

I hated my mother more than almost anything right now. Not only did she send me away to boarding school for the next four years, but she unknowingly put me and some of the students here in danger.

"Alice, quit pouting and act normal," Dad said quietly, lower than human ears could hear. I winced. Normal. I hadn't been normal since Mom had died. I cried out in agony as I stared ahead at the gorgeous people ahead of me. One girl had long, luscious locks of auburn hair that fell past her hips in natural curls. Her lips were a faint smile against her olive skin and her eyes twinkled a deep, shady bluish gray. The girl across the room from her had shorter, blond hair that fell straight down to her shoulders. Her pale skin and green eyes shone bright in the bright lighting. Mom clamped her hand down on my shoulder and I sighed. "She's gorgeous! I hope she doesn't go for Justin Carroll," The auburn haired girl thought. "Man, do I look paler than ever!" The blond thought. I kept my composure. No need to start going insane and berserk over this. I looked at the empty bed in the corner closest to the window. Dad was already putting my stuff down on it. "Alice, we'll be. . . A call away," Mom whispered to me. I nodded again, still taking this in. She smiled and Dad thought, "Anything funny happens, you had better mental page me. I'm warning you, Alice, your life is a gift to us." Then they were gone. Both of them turned and walked out of the door, not a word to anyone else.

"Hey," The blond said to me in a soft monotone. "You must be Alice Brown." I smiled and nodded yet again. "I'm Evelyn, and the girl who is walking around looking like she has a metal rod up her butt is Janelle." I laughed and looked at Janelle, who was stroking a brush through her long auburn hair. "Alice." She nodded at me and turned back to the mirror. Evelyn rolled her eyes and continued going about her business. "You know, I hope you didn't think you could come around here and be the best of the best," Janelle said bitterly. "I'm the top dog around here, and I don't like puppy dogs stepping where they don't belong." I glared at her and I heard a faint snap. "Oh! My wrist!" She screamed. Did I break her wrist? I stood there and watched her, amused by the pain she was in. "Please, go get Miss Courtney," She said, pointing a finger at Evelyn. "Nope. You can walk. You do it," She said, continuing to read her book. "I can't STAND you, Evelyn! I hope you get kicked out!" She said with a grunt as she flew out of the room. Evelyn laughed, a nice, rhythmic tone. "We're pretty privileged here. You get your assignments and do them here, and if you need help, that's what going to class is for," Evelyn explained. A knock at the door interrupted a train of thought that was coming to run me over.

"Hey, Rowan!" Evelyn said, a gleam of happiness in her eyes. "What's up, Ev?" He said, punching her in the arm. She giggled, wouldn't that have hurt a frail human girl like herself? Rowan looked at me and laughed. "Rowan, that's my new roommate Alice. Alice, this is my cousin Rowan," She said, gesturing to the handsome boy beside her. He walked over to me and kissed my hand. "Beautiful," He muttered. I gasped as he didn't pull away from my cold, lifeless hand. How he didn't seem to feel the ice cold air generating off of me. Evelyn, Rowan, and I stepped outside for a minute to take a walk.

I heard a lighter flicker and a drag of air. I turned to see Rowan and Evelyn lighting cigarettes, dragging from them as if they needed it. "You want any?" Rowan asked, pushing the pack towards me. "I don't smoke, Rowan," I muttered, pushing his hand away. He laughed. "Why is that?" "Because it destroys your lungs." Not that my lungs could be destroyed, but Rowan and Evelyn could die. "Now, Alice, we both know that you, Evelyn, and I can't be killed easily," He said as if it were nothing. I gasped again. "How did you know?" I asked him, pain shooting through my chest. "I read your mind. That, and your hand is freezing and I could taste the death on it."

Rowan and Evelyn smashed their cigarettes and looked at me. Menacing stares bored into my mind and soul, and then Rowan pulled a claw to my face.

"So easily can I destroy you," He whispered, "So easily I can morph into the Angel I really am and destroy you entirely." I winced in pain. "But I won't. Why? I couldn't tell you." He brought his whole hand to my face, and Evelyn was gone. "Alice, I love you. You can't tell anybody this, but I read your mind. I read who you are. I love who you are," He breathed. I sighed and released my offensive stance. "So you don't want to kill me?" I thought. "No." He thought back. He brought his lips to mine. "I love you, Alice," He whispered again after he pulled away. "Rowan, I don't understand that. You're an Angel, you shouldn't be able to read minds! What is Evelyn?" I could feel the confusion setting into my facial features. "No idea. Evelyn is... Well, she isn't my cousin really, But we bonded very quickly because she isn't human and neither am I," Rowan explained, "So it was better to say she was my cousin." "Rowan, you didn't answer my question! What is Evelyn, like I'm the Living Dead, you're an Angel, what is Evelyn?" I managed to ask without my voice cracking. "Evelyn is a Demon. She was debating eating you, you looked absolutely mouthwatering to her. Reading your mind convinced her out of it after she saw you were a good person and that your parents would come for her and destroy her," Rowan muttered. "I was supposed to kill Evelyn. I was supposed to kill you. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm not a Fallen Angel, I'm an Avenging Angel," Rowan admitted.

And then he was gone.

When I got back to the dorm, Mom and Dad were staring at me disapprovingly. "Alice, what were you doing out there with an Angel?" Dad asked me angrily. "I honestly didn't know he was an Angel. I didn't bother to tap his mind," I explained. "Alice, you must realize that you're in danger away from us! I don't want your Immortal Charm ripped out of your heart, Alice!" Mom thought angrily. Dad nodded in agreement with her. "Mom, you don't understand!" I said out loud. "I do understand, Alice," She breathed, pulling me gently into her arms. "But do you love him back?" She asked me. Dad fell to his knees. "No. No. No. No. NO!" He shouted, clenching his eyes shut and grasping his head tightly between his hands. I saw his body tighten up. He was fighting his instincts to go and kill Rowan for trying to romance me. "Alice, answer me," Mom said sadly. I heard the tears in her voice and looked up to see her staring at Dad who was giving over to emotional pain. He groaned.

"Noooooo, Alice. No! Absolutely not! You can't love someone you just met, Alice! No!" He shouted as he dragged me to the car. I tried to fight him and I lost. Mom had tears streaming down her cheeks. Dad locked me in the car, which was ultimately soundproof, and they sat outside the car arguing. I guess they practiced keeping people out, because I couldn't tap into their minds. I finally broke the barrier and heard through Mom's ears. "Monique, I'm not keeping her here!" Dad shouted. "I agree with you on that. She'll be home schooled," Mom concluded. No! I had to see Rowan again! Both heads turned to me. "No, Alice. I won't allow you to see or have contact with him," Mom whispered. "No!" I screamed. "I love Rowan! You can't do this to me!" Dad fell to the ground again. Mom had more tears pouring down her cheeks. She pulled my father up and I saw the pain outlined in his features. "No," He whispered. He clenched his eyes shut and punched the side of the car, leaving a clear imprint of his fist. He looked at me and looked away, ashamed to have anything to do with me. He turned and ran off into the woods. Mom rolled up the window to keep me locked in and ran after him. I heard a tree fall and I knew that I was in for it when they got back.
