1. RECENT LAUNCHES
The New Map -- the new map was published a few weeks ago, and has been a big hit! You can use the new map to find mutual friends, figure out where people are hanging out on Whyville, and look for new games and activities!
More Skins -- even more skins have been added for you to choose from! Take a look on the User Info & Preferences page!
Welcome Lounge -- There's now a bell in the Welcome Lounge to summon tour guides, and a featured pic of the highest rated guide. If you want to be a guide, sign up now!
Oldbie Lounge -- The Buzz Hive has returned as the Oldbie Lounge! Our veteran users can access these special private rooms at Dr. Leila's.
2. RECENT EVENTS
Whylitzer Prizes -- In the past 2 weeks, we've awarded 20 Whylitzer prizes. Want to know more about this prize? Visit the 5th Floor in City Hall for more info.
Scion Car Rally -- Thousands of clams awarded. Hundreds of rally racers. Three winners: ensaj, tapedexel, and snowbal55. Congratulations! These three citizens achieved the top scores in our first Car Rally of 2009, which was held on Friday, January 23rd. Each received the rare Scion Car Rally Trophy. Drivers and passengers alike received a special Scion Car Rally Badge to wear around Whyville. Don't miss out on our next Car Rally on March 13th where you can earn clams and prizes!
Solstice Safari -- is currently closed for repairs. Awards for the last Safari are coming soon!
Oldbie Meeting -- on Thursday, Feb. 12, we held the first Oldbie Meeting for veteran users to discuss the what they'd like to see in Whyville. We had over 30 oldbies in attendance and seven city workers. Look out for more meetings in the future!
3. CURRENT/UPCOMING EVENTS:
A new Science Chicago room -- opened on February 15th! Remember, new rooms open each month and new SC cards show up all over Whyville. Collect SC cards and redeem them in the right SC room to earn clams!
The Senate Elections are moving along nicely! Check this Times article from City Hall for info about the 6 finalists!
Whyville's Tenth Birthday is in March! Keep an eye out for details. Check out this article for information on a Times Contest.
4. WHYVILLE PROJECTS
Advanced BBS -- The new BBS will be launched this month. What forums do you want to see?
Renovation -- The Airfield, Dr. Leila's, and other older areas of Whyville are getting shiny new makeovers! The screens will become larger and their graphics, while staying the same, are being redone to match the quality of newer rooms.
Address Book -- The address book will be updated from 50 names to 250 for regular users, and from 100 to 500 for Pearls subscribers and lifetime Whypass owners.
5. FUTURE PROJECTS
2009 is going to be a big year for Whyville. The last State of Whyville mentioned The New Whyville and updated City Records Profiles. Here are some more things to look out for:
The Whyville Times -- we're hoping to renovate the Whyville Times this year so more citizens can participate in the Times by writing, contributing and leaving feedback. Changes will include the return of the Times office, a smooth new layout, advanced archive search, article tags, contests, and fun new sections. Is there something you want to see in the new Whyville Times? Leave your idea in a comment.
Friend Finder -- Soon you'll be able to find friends who are mutual (they have added you as a friend also). This will make sure that only mutual friends can find you using the new map, and will reduce spam Friend Finder messages. In the future, there will be other benefits of mutual friendship.
6. REMINDERS
* If you don't have Pearls, get some today! For the cost of a couple candy bars, you can enjoy special Whyville activities like Pets, Chat Candy, and more. You can also sign up for a Pearls allowance and get new Pearls each month, or give Pearls as a gift.
* Need extra clams? Just a reminder that the Welcome Lounge needs Whyville Guides (WG). If you qualify, stop by the Welcome Lounge in the WhyHouse to join. You'll get a special WG hat, use special commands to conduct tours, AND earn up to 100 clams a day helping new citizens.
* Calendar Events -- Seven days a week: Letter Squash or Math Expressions at 1 PM and 6 PM; Tuesday and Friday this week: Scion Solutions Quiz Game 3 PM.
