I handed him the blade and pecked him on the cheek
So happy, so grateful to have met someone with such a mind
He was grinning at me broadly as he began to speak
He said he would carve me something one-of-a-kind
I smiled, turned my back, and closed my eyes
He said it would take just a minute or two
I eagerly awaited the promised surprise
Imagining a velvet-cased ring and my own "I do!"
When the metal sank through my happy heart,
The freezing blade brought me to reality afresh
I awoke from my fantasies with a violent start
As it twisted deeper into my flaming flesh
He brushed his lips against mind with gentle grace
He held me to his chest, though my state was gory
And while the room faded, I feasted on his face
Forgiving him took nothing, but forgetting - well -
That, I must say, is an entirely different story
