Would I love him as tenderly as bells could shine?
Would I give him my heart and call him mine?
Would I extend my lips so far as to say
"Make me yours - please - one day!"
And devote myself to him forever that way?

Would I feel my head turn and my filmy eyes stare?
Would I fall apart at his touch and simply not care?
Would I happily offer him my delicate soul
In the hopes that he'd keep it polished and whole
So we could build our bridge without paying a toll?

Would I fall in love and never feel regret?
Would I be never broken and my eyes never wet?
Would I know how to respond when he says to me
That he "wants to commit himself fully and see
How intensely our love could burn . . . but we can never be."

Author's Note: I'm taking a break from Whyvillle, but I'm going to submit poetry every once in awhile. Thanks for reading!
