It seems we can fix any problem these days.

Just look at commercials. We've got gadgets to help you accomplish any task and fix any problem. Have a stain on your shirt? We've got hundreds of products to fix that; just choose one. Not enough room in your closet? There are plenty of organizers, hangers, and special bags to help everything fit in a small space. What about bigger problems? What about drunk drivers? No problem, we'll just put breathalyzers in their cars.

We've got special knives for cutting things a special way. We've got special bags to keep your vegetables from rotting. Every car is installed with a GPS, so now we'll never get lost. We have thousands of medicines to help you with anything that might be wrong.

Just think about it. For anything that may be a problem, there's a invention to fix that problem. You never have to work to solve a problem because there's always something there for you to buy. Whether you need a way to stop losing your keys or a way to always know exactly which way to go, there's something to serve your needs.

There are so many things that are trying to help us, to make our lives easier. But are our lives really easier? Maybe we can chop onions more efficiently or make our laundry whiter but does this make us happier? If one little thing can be fixed does that make our life better or is that just a tiny millionth of the problems?

There may be products to fix anything and everything but they never seem to really fix anything. People are just spending more money and having more things, but what about the rest of life that can't be fixed with items?

Is there anything to fix my emotions that just come along with being a teenager? Is there anything to fix the heartbreak when you lose someone you love? Is there anything to help the sadness when bad things happen each and every day? Is there anything to stop bullies and help kids make friends?

What about war? What about hunger and famine? What about the real problems?

Only we can fix those. Only people can come together to stop these problems. If people could get along we wouldn't have war. If people wanted to help everyone else instead of worrying about fixing their own problems, maybe we would be okay one day.

If everyone took the time to look around and see the problems other people were facing, then maybe we could help. Maybe if everyone made friends with someone who looked lonely, if everyone was there for a friend when something bad happened, if nobody was selfish, maybe we could fix the real problems.

So maybe you've found a way to exercise for only five minutes a day, or maybe you've found a way to prepare a meal in seconds, maybe you've found something to fix the tiny problems you experience, but have you helped someone else today?
