Summer, some say the greatest time of year. Now that it's almost over, I thought it was appropriate to write something that was a homage to the unique season. In Texas we have a two season year. Meaning that we don't have distinct seasons, besides winter and summer. The smells of summer are my favorite. Sun tan oil at my best friend, Hannah's house, the smell of leather seats in over a hundred degree weather, food on the grill, and even wet dog after he jumped in the pond.

Oh the sights you can see! Six packs and nicely tanned bodies line the streets and it seems as if shirts are out of style. Going to the water park and seeing two little girls holding hands was one of my favorite things that happened this summer. Hummingbirds filling the bird feeders and if it was a hotel then there would be a no vacancy sign on the window. Watching the days fly by is the hardest thing to come to terms with.

You can also feel many things during the summer. The sun's rays dancing lightly on your skin, the water of a lazy river licking at your toes. The feeling of having over a hundred dollars in your hands after a hard days work. Your best friend's hand in yours as you cross an intersection. Or the feeling of a steering wheel as you merge for the first time on the highway. Many feelings to take part in.

The sound of laughs at the local pool is the serenade that summer months are wooed by. The sound of the play, "Romeo and Juliet", at Texas Christian University was one of many wonders. The sound of children laughing as they play soccer at the local park. The sound of my friend and I partaking in swinging at the exact same park. The sound of a Kodak moment, a memory that will last a lifetime after many summers have past.

I love almost everything about summer. I mean, what isn't to love? But what summer signifies the most is change. Change to a new grade. Change of friendships. Change of moving. Change of different teachers. Change of feeling toward people. Change of everything. Change can be scary, but sometimes change is for the better. Sometimes moving on is a positive thing. Look change straight in the face and embrace it.
