"I can't do this; I'm done for and I don't even know what I'll do next. Something bad is going to happen, I just know it," I thought

"Okay, what we'll do is follow this map I downloaded off the White House's security site to go there, which is where they keep the powers they take from people," Derek pointed to a box on the map reading, "A.U.P."

"What does A.U.P. stand for?" I asked blowing my nose afterward.

"America's Unquiers' Powers."

"Very creative."

I grabbed my backpack and found I had accidentally brought my journal. I asked Derek for a pen and wrote:

Dear Journal,

I'm on a on a helicopter right now with Derek. Too many things have been going on in my life. And I'm sixteen for heaven's sake.

Life is hard right now; I feel like I'm in a book that never ends and keeps going and going and going and is never going to stop. Like I said in previous entries, I feel pressured to be perfect -- as in keeping everything in order.

The helicopter stopped at a park close to the White House. We all got out and ran. Well, actually I walked slowly hoping to drop dead and stop the pain my family was having.

Two adults came to greet us; one was male and one was female. The male was bald and had bright blue eyes; the female on the other hand had dark red curls with green eyes. They paused and stared at me. The red head had tears coming down from her eyes.

"Sadie?" she asked.

"How do you know my name?"

"Sadie, it's me your mother Natalie, and this is your father Aden."

"Mom? That can't be you, my mom had brown hair."

"It's the Witness Protection Program, that's why you don't recognize us," said the male.

"Derek located us," said the woman.

"What? How?"

"I'm amazing," replied Derek.

I rolled my eyes. "Really Derek, I know you're hiding something from me."

He ignored me.

"If you're my parents then why didn't you pick me up at the orphanage?"

"We couldn't."

"You couldn't?! You could. You could have put on a costume on yourselves or something."

"We were almost killed, and we're forced to work for Charlie, who works for the president."

I held back the tears. I didn't believe them, but I did. My heart was telling me to believe so I did. I walked over, stared at them, and hugged both of them at the same time.

Derek looked at his watch and tapped his foot impatiently. I let go.

"Natalie, Aden, could you help us get to the A.U.P. section?" Derek asked.

Mom smiled, "Of course follow me."

So we followed. When we got to the White House we didn't go through the front. We went to the back and walked through the door back there. Mom and Dad showed their tags to the guards and told them Derek and I were with them.

There were doors everywhere. We walked through at least ten halls until we got to a door that read: A.U.P. Authorized Personal Only. We just walked through the door.

There were bottles full of different color liquids and people's names were written underneath them, in alphabetical order. Mom kept walking until we reached, Hagen, my old last name. Mom lifted up a bottle, and Dad lifted up two, but handed one to me. I read it. It said: Sadie Grace Hagen.

"These are mine?"

"Yes, they are. Do you still want to have powers?"

"I . . . I . . . I don't know," I said looking at Derek, Mom, and then Dad studying their faces, "You can do that?"

Dad nodded, "Watch." He toke a needle from Derek that he got from somewhere, and poured Mom's bottle into the needle and then put the needle in her.

Mom glowed. Light shined everywhere. She changed from of a red headed, green-eyed woman with wrinkles to a woman with brown curls, brown eyes and no wrinkles. Her contacts, hair dye and wrinkles from aging disappeared. It looked like Mom lifted up from the ground. She smiled her eyes sparkling.

"So?" she asked.

I was speechless, "Mom, you're back to your old self."

"Want your powers now?" asked Dad.

"Yes, yes, yes and a million yeses."

Dad grabbed the bottle I was holding and did the same thing to me as he did to Mom. As the needle plunged into me, I started to feel whole again, and light went all around me. I felt like I was being lifted off the ground. My hair swirled around and banged against my neck. When the process was done, I looked at Derek. His face looked surprised, and his mouth was dropped opened. I giggled.

"What do you think?" I asked.

"Sadie, you're beautiful," said Derek smiling.

"Thanks."

"Your turn Aden," Mom said to Dad.

Mom did the same thing as Dad did to us. The same thing that had happened to Mom didn't happen. It was shorter; it only took ten seconds. He lifted up then back down again.

"Dad? How come you didn't do the same thing as Mom?" I asked.

"Charlie didn't take all the powers away from me," he smirked, "and he didn't even know it."

Someone opened the door and yelled, "Put your hands up!"

We were followed.

"Run!" Dad whispered. We ran out of the room, finding that there was a whole army of guards outside of the door. They started to shoot guns at us, but we were invisible. Dad started kicking the guards, Mom followed, so I soon followed as well. When everyone either ran away or was knocked out, the president and Charlie came to us.

"What happened here?" asked Charlie.

"Hello, Charlie remember me?" I asked.

"Sadie? How . . . what?"

"Goodbye," I said then hit him in the head, hard enough to knock him out cold.

"What did you do?" the president asked.

Mom and Dad explained the whole story to the president.

"Wow, I never knew that. Natalie, Aden, Sadie and Derek you're free to go."

We walked out and the president showed us to a helicopter and we went home to my adopted family.

It took us an hour to get home and when we did, I introduced Elizabeth and Dan to Mom and Dad. From then on we became the Hill-Hagen family. And Derek and I started to date.

Author's Note: Hope you enjoyed "A Different Life"! I sure enjoyed writing it. I plan on writing another series soon.
