Glasses. The one word that scares every fifth grader. I remember when I got my first pair of glasses, but I wasn't scared at the time, I was actually excited. Excited, I know interesting. Anyway, I've had glasses for about three and a half years now. It wasn't until I started middle school that I began wanting contacts. I've been thinking about them for years now. So I finally got off my lazy but and researched long and hard about contacts versus glasses.

Contacts:

The Pros:

- Your appearance will not change.
- You will have perfect peripheral vision.
- You can play sports without worrying that your glasses will break, get in the way, or fall off your face.
- You can change the color of your eyes.

The Cons:

- You might have to take them out at night, instead of just setting your glasses by your bed or in their case.
- They're very hard to see if you drop them.
- If they get scratched or dirty they'll irritate your eyes and can cause an infection.

If you have or will have contacts do you know how to take proper care of them? Your doctor will give you instructions and/or will show you how to clean them and will give you a solution to clean them in.

Recommended Storage for Contacts:

- Do what your eye doctor recommends for storage.
- Purchase a contact case. (You can buy one at Wal-Mart or other stores like that.)
- Clean your contacts before you put them on.

Can you wear mascara with contacts? Yes, but it will be smart to not wear mascara with nylon fibers. If you don't know which mascaras have nylon, just look at the ingredients. If it does, then don't use that mascara.

Glasses:

The Pros:

- Take them off and on without touching your eyes.
- You can ALWAYS remember to take them off before you go to bed.
- Better vision than contacts. When you cry you just take off your glasses to get rid of the moisture in your eyes.
- Your appearance will change.

The Cons:

- Glasses aren't the best thing you can do when you play sports.
- You can't use your peripheral vision that well.
- You appearance will change.

Do know how to clean your newly bought or old glasses properly? I sure don't, so I found instructions off of www.ehow.com.

1. Wash the lenses everyday with mild soap and warm water to get all the dirt and oil off of them.
2. Dry the lenses with a lens cloth or a nonabrasive cloth.
3. You can purchase a professional lens-cleaning cloth and lens gel/spray to get rid off fingerprints, dirt, and smudges.
4. Make sure you hold your glasses by the frame, DON'T put your fingers on the lenses to hold them, you'll just have to clean them again.
5. Wash the cleaning cloth that you use weekly with mild, nonabrasive soap. Try to not to use fabric softener when drying your cloth.

Tip for glasses:

- Keep your glasses in a case when you're not using them, and keep the case in a special place so no one knocks it down by accident.
- If you're in the middle of a class at school or can't get your cleaning supplies for your glasses, I would clean them with your shirt, because it's fast and easy.
- Get a pair that won't slide off. To make sure that they won't slide off, try them on and put your chin to your chest if they don't slide off, congrats! You found your perfect pair.

The Bottom Line:

So, it looks like it's a personal decision whether to have contacts or glasses. If you don't want to touch your eye, use your glasses.

It's your choice, I've chosen mine.

Author's Note: I have NOT tried or used contacts, I just researched about them, but I do however have glasses. Also, I put, "Your appearance will change" as both the pros and cons because it depends on the person.
