Hey Whyvillians! This is Star13211 reporting on duct tape (but I am going to call it duck tape).
So you all must know what duck tape is, right" Guy in the back, "It's a kind of thick gray sticky thing, ha ha." Well here is the accurate description: it is really a vinyl, fabric-reinforced, many-purposed tape. It is normally in the colors black and gray, and even very flashy neon colors (but that is only in special stores such as Walmart).
Now you know what duck tape really is, here is a history lesson. Duck tape was invented by Richard Drew of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co during the 1920's. It's an old invention! Just think, your grandfather or even great-grandfather could have heard about duck tape when he was our age! But it wasn't manufactured and created until about 1942. It was pretty popular in the 1970's.
So now I bet you want to know how to use it! This may be a stupid question, but what are it's uses? Well that's why I am here, duh! So here are a few things you can use duck tape for. . .
- To fix thing in a very different way (instead of glue or just regular tape). You can fix really random things from a broken tool box to a couch. (I have fixed a tool box with duct tape before!)
- You can use in common day things, for example: motorcycles! Think if anyone you know drives a motorcycle -- duck tape is making that happen!
- Of course you can use it for humor! A lot of people think that duck tape is kind of funny. For one thing it has "duck" in it so I can see the humor.
- And finally, to create! I have seen duct tape gloves, books, guitar straps and many other things. I have even worn the gloves.
