I'm feeling the rush! It's so close to Christmas that I'm about to scream. Wrapping presents, Chinese gift exchanges, and holiday sweets have taken up most of my time this week. But alas, the preparation isn't complete! I still have a few people on my list to get a gift for. What should I do?!
Why, I know, I will MAKE their gifts! I have the perfect craft for our last edition of "Holidays Made Easy". Today, we will create our own extra-fantastical . . . snow globes!
Homemade snow globes are the ultimate in holiday crafts. They are perfect for decorations or personalized gifts, and save some extra money around the house. For this craft, you will need:
Clean glass jars, small plastic or ceramic figurines, clear-drying epoxy, silver glitter, and glycerin (available at drugstores).
Now I don't have much time, so let's get to it! The first thing you'll want to do is make sure all your glass jars are clean - wouldn't want any yellow snow floating around in there! Olive jars are the perfect size, but just reuse any that you have around the house. Next, use the epoxy to secure a small figurine to the inside of the lid, and let dry.
Then, fill the jar almost all the way up with distilled water. Add a little glitter to the water, plus about a teaspoon of glycerin. The glycerin isn't necessary, but will help the glitter fall more slowly.
After that, you're ready to shake and bake! Just screw the lid back onto the jar nice and tight, flip it upside down, and viola! Your very own snow globe.
Try experimenting with different sizes of jars, various colors of glitter, or bizarre figurines. You'll end up with the perfect gift for everyone on your last-minute gift list.
Thank you so much for sticking through with me on this little holiday series! Sadly, because the festivities won't be around much longer, this will be the last issue. But I'll see you again later, in another section of the Times!
Beaucoup amour,
Soap
