Author's Note: Today I write to you about happiness. Today I will write to say why I am proud to be apart of the Whyville Times.
Dear Whyville,
As a writer and reader of the Times (I read religiously), I am always excited for the Whyville Times Awards! They?re always bustling with excitement and fun! This year was probably the best though.
I started by logging on quickly and going to the Greek Theatre. Full. I refreshed several times as I y-mailed a friend to tell everyone I was getting on. After 3 more minutes of endless refreshes, I got in. My other friend whispered to me telling me one of her accounts took up my spot. I smiled and replied, "Thanks so much." Because that extra account was no ordinary account, it was the star of her comic, Coolmom. I was so happy she moved her I almost missed the next award announcement.
As I waited for the categories I was nominated for to come up, I was happy to see Whyvillians cheering for people and saying things like, "You all were great!" or "Impressive article!" Although I did see some sour pusses, the good outdid the bad, like always.
Finally my categories came up. I watched and squirmed around in my black chair we use for my computer. It might have even made a farting noise because I moved around so much. Then, the award winner was announced! I lost. I was a bit disappointed but excited for the winners because their articles were truly amazing. I saw people clapping for everyone and cheering. And once again felt happy.
But what I really want to say, Whyville, is that our little group of "Timesers", as I like to call them, really are supportive. Even if their candidate didn't win, they cheered and congratulated. If they won, they thanked and told the others they were great. And this is truly something amazing that no other virtual world has. Sure, you can maybe write a poem for their newspapers, but they have to be about the website. Sure you can get recognized, but get a special face part and people cheering for you? I think not.
So what I'm saying is, I am proud to be apart of the Times. Thank you writers, guest writers, readers, and more. You truly make this little town a whole lot better. Perhaps that's why I'm so addicted to it, unlike most people I know who quit after a month.
