Hello, Whyvillians! I have recently started playing a new video game that features one of my favorite bands of all time. I love The Beatles. I've been listening to their music since I was a baby, and I can safely say that I know most of their songs inside and out. Naturally, I was intrigued by the idea of having a Rock Band that was based on The Beatles. I was watching TV with my dad and my brother, and a commercial for this game came on. Afterwards, we all agreed that it looked cool and we wanted to get it.
The premise of The Beatles: Rock Band is pretty much the same as any other Rock Band game. Each player selects an instrument and plays along with the songs. As usual, there are also difficulty levels to choose from. This is part of what makes Rock Band in general a pretty good family game, since everyone can adjust to fit his or her skill level. (Considering that I'm a noob compared to my brother, that's not such a bad thing.) You can choose to play guitar, drums, or bass, and you can sing, too. The game comes with everything you need, unless you just buy the disc. (Keep in mind that you're going to have a hard time playing without the instruments.)
There are also some things that differ from normal Rock Band. For one thing, you actually play as John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead of the random (and sometimes creepy) rockers from the original game. As you might expect, you only play Beatles songs. Also, you can plug in multiple microphones, and you also have the option to sing harmonies. I haven?t tried that yet (since I only have one microphone), but I think it's an interesting addition to the game. This also means that more people can join in! Speaking of which, you can have up to seven people playing at a time. Once again, I haven?t tried this, but I think it'd be a lot of fun.
Another thing that I really like about this game is what goes on in the background while you're playing. It's much more exciting than the other Rock Band game I have, and it actually makes simply watching the game pretty fun. Sometimes you'll see classic venues (such as the Ed Sullivan Show or the rooftop), and other times you'll see something similar to a music video. This can be distracting at times, but it's rarely enough to cause mistakes.
I've been playing The Beatles: Rock Band for a couple of weeks, and I'm starting to get better (although that pesky orange button is still not a friend of mine). Personally, I prefer to sing and play the bass. My favorite songs to sing are "Hello Goodbye", "Here Comes the Sun", and "I'm Looking Through You". As far as bass goes, I'm actually fine with playing pretty much anything. There are also downloadable songs you can get, and my dad, brother, and I all seem to be in agreement that we want to try "The End".
Overall, this is a very fun game. I think the new features of the game are great, and I really enjoy playing it. It can be a little easy at times, but hey, that's what the expert level is for! If you're a fan of The Beatles, you'll love this game. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.
