PANDEMIC

I was never the athletic person in school. I was always the girl who dreamed of making the team. I tried out once, but I didn't make it. I decided that I was never going to try out because I would never make it.

I later learned that my family has a history of health problems. From cancer to diabetes, we've had a lot. I have a great chance of having bad health when I'm older. In order to avoid this, I had to get off my big butt and change my eating and exercise habits.

I promised myself that I would go to the local YMCA at least 3 times a week and work out. I changed my eating habits - junk food is no longer a problem in my life, other than the occasional chocolate bar (a girl needs chocolate, doesn't she!?). I'm now a vegetarian and I drink a lot of water. I also promised myself that I would try out for every school sports team. Even if I don't make it, at least I tried. I even got my friends to promise themselves that, too!

That was about halfway through 2009. It is already 2010, and I've stayed true to every promise. I'm in karate and taekwondo, I downhill and cross country ski. I walk dogs after school. I've made the school's volleyball and basketball teams. I've lost a lot of weight, and I haven't been sick since I started. So not only am I healthy, I'm also feeling great!

The moral of this story is that if you set your mind to something, you can do it, even if it takes some work!

Hopefully my story has helped you in some way. Please y-mail me if this has helped you!
