Poorly chosen words can poison a school's atmosphere by lowering enthusiasm, dampening spirits and they can be both offensive and hurtful. There is certainly a time and place for these words; school is not one of them.
Somewhere along the way, we seem to have forgotten that it is a privilege to go to school. Society has made it an official "right" for an individual to receive an education and because of that some students have come to believe that this means they do not need to be held accountable for their actions.
What I mean when I say this is: You wouldn't walk into your workplace and start dropping "f" bombs everywhere, your boss wouldn't appreciate that nor would your co-workers or customers. If this kind of behavior isn't appropriate there then why would that kind of behavior be acceptable at school where your teachers and fellow classmates may not wish to hear that kind of language.
Receiving an education is a right; behaving in an immature, offensive manner is not.
This month's virtue is respect. I challenge you to respect your peers, teachers, and everyone around you by trying to eliminate toxic words in public places.
