I've recently become obsessed with beauty photography. This extreme imagery is graphic, unexpected, and unique. Beauty photography in and of itself is hard to define, but once you start seeing the fashion-forward works of Stephen Eastwood, Dirk Bader, or Yves Lavallette, you're hooked.
Bold colors, fascinating perspective, bluntly stunning allure . . . Beauty photography seems to be a lot more fascinating than Botticelli and the Renaissance. Which is why recently during art class, I chose to go hunting for some new modern artists instead of doing the required assignment.
I'm so glad I don't follow rules -- the photographer I found is simply amazing, and I believe that everyone should see this man's work.
Iain Crawford is a London-based photographer who has worked with such names as Vogue, Givenchy, and Lancome. His images are breathtaking. He uses brilliant pigments and graphic forms unlike any other artist. Crawford is mostly known (and envied) for his high-speed shots of splattering paint, powder cosmetics and windblown hair. He utilizes lighting in harmony with these elements to spotlight shine, color, or lack thereof.
If you've never seen Crawford's portfolio, I'd highly recommend you type his name into your web-searching engine of choice. His photographs will give you a new vision of modern fashion and beauty.
