This beautiful tale, taken from the original story, "The Twelve Dancing Princesses", is written by Jessica Day George and read by many. Taking you into a fantasy world, full of secrets, love and worn out dancing slippers, it feels like a sin to put the book down! It puts you smack-dab in the middle of the story, taking you along for the twelve princesses, and Galen's, incredible journey.
It starts when Galen, barely 19 years old, makes his way to Bruch, after fighting in the Analousian war. On the way there, he comes across some pretty interesting stuff, only adding to his collection of confusion.
He makes his way to the bustling town, finds his mother's relatives and moves in; expecting a normal life, working with his uncle as an under-gardener at the royal palace. Throw in a few magic tools, a peg-legged old man and a beautiful princess and the book takes off.
The princesses have a deep secret, but are unable to utter a word to free themselves from their mother's curse. Their father, unsure of exactly what to do, starts a contest; whoever can uncover the puzzle gets to marry one of the princesses and is heir to the Westfalin crown, simple, right? Not so much.
After several mysterious deaths, Galen steps in to save the day, only to find out that the secret reaches much farther than he'd expected. And then, using his . . . I think I've told you a little too much already!
I'd highly recommend you find this book (online, library, local book store, etc.) and read it right away; you won't regret it. I, personally, feel that Jessica D. George did an awesome job of spinning this amazing fairytale.
It has action, romance, secrets, curses, war, bravery -- anything you could want in a book! All mixed together in the perfect recipe; pure genius.
