This afternoon as a special treat for our good grades, some other students and I we're invited to a pizza party. Once served my slice I looked down and thought to myself "Is this really good for my
body?" After doing some research I was disgusted with the results.
One slice of Papa John's fourteen inch pepperoni pizza holds a whopping 38 carbohydrates, 13 grams of fat, and 310 calories. The United States department of agriculture (USDA) states that a child should not have more than 40 grams of fat per day, and an adult 65. That means eating 3 pieces of pizza would be more than enough to suit your whole days worth of fat. Add in the 310 calories and you've got a real problem. At approximately 13-14 years of age you'd need to walk for 1 hour and 20 minutes to burn off just one piece.
If you're not busy breaking the sound barrier by now I'd bet you're wondering just how to enjoy that yummy piece of temptation without fear of some extra fat tagging along. Papa Johns does have several choices that are a much more healthy option to choose while still being caring to your taste buds. Papa John's 12" Garden Fresh Pizza has a much more soothing dish of just 23 carbs, 7 grams of fat, and 200 calories. That's more than a third less than the other pizza. Mouthwatering portabella mushrooms, freshly picked black olives with crunchy green peppers, a zing of onion, and the kick of Roma tomatoes for a healthy but tasty meal.
If you're still reluctant to try the healthier choice there's always something else you can try. Take 2-3 paper towels (depending on how greasy the pizza is), take off all the pepperoni and place the paper towels on the pizza and press down LIGHTLY. Proceed to your sink and turn the sink on so there's a steady stream of water coming out. Swish each pepperoni quickly through the water, dry them off if necessary and enjoy!
I think from now on I'll think twice before digging in, after all, it may just come back to haunt me.
