Five years ago, when I was nine, I tried this whole "Whyville" thing. I was introduced to it by a couple of friends who quit soon after. The story was not the same for me, however. I met you on here. Unfortunately for a little nine year-old, you were thirteen. No problem though, it can be solved with just a little, harmless white lie, right? Wrong.
I told you I was 13. I even changed my name. I thought that it would please you, and what did I have to lose? Not a word of truth would come from me, and you wouldn't have a clue.
As it turns out, years went by, and I was still friends with you. I wished you a good sleep every night, and woke up to a text from you every morning. I was tortured with the knowledge that, no matter how close we were, you were just friends with that nine year-old's mistake.
You are my twin, just like me in every way. The only difference is, you admit when you are wrong, and I just dig a bigger hole. So when I told you I had a secret that would ruin our relationship, I knew I was in trouble.
Weeks went by, your trust in me destroyed, until that fateful day I got the courage to tell you. It turns out, the truth was better. You were more angry knowing I had a secret that I wasn't telling you, than knowing that the person you knew was a lie.
If I could go back, I would have told you the truth. If I can take back all of the lies passed from my finger tips to your computer screen, I surely would. Now I know that, even if somebody is across the country, or even around the world, every lie you mutter is serious, and damages the relationship forever.
I write this unfortunately true story in hopes of both getting it off my back and helping others learn the easy way that lies are dangerous and bad, no matter how small. It truly tore me up inside to have this girl's trust fall and heart break in front of me. Don't make the same mistake I did, or you will hurt both yourself and others. Be smart, tell the truth. The people that don't like you for who you truly are are just proving that they need to mature and grow up, and you certainly don't need to waste your time on them.
