One thing that you learn when you are a little kid in elementary school is to be nice. You are taught to never judge others, and to be kind to everybody. By the time you are in junior high and high school things seem to change. People start to forget the golden rule, Do the Right Thing and Treat People Right. This article is going to be focusing on how to respect others, and gain it in return.

Like I mentioned when people start aging into teens and young adults they start to form opinions on how things should be. For example, you might have a religion that you study and believe in. There are so many ideas to believe and while everybody is choosing what to follow, you might butt heads with somebody else. Just because two people believe don't believe in the same thing doesn't mean you have to exclude them from your circle of friends. It also doesn't give you any reason to be disrespectful to them. Never judge somebody by what religion they are, or what religion they aren't.

When you become a teen you start gaining relationships with other people that are more than friendships. When you have romantic feelings towards somebody you shouldn't be judged for them. If you are attracted to somebody that might not be "cool" or is "out of your league" you shouldn't be mocked for it. Also, if you have a different gender preference than somebody else never judge them for it. You have no business in their love life and it is best if you keep out of it. Even if you don't agree with another person's opinion on the matter of love it doesn't mean you have to be rude or judgmental about it.

Opinions on situations like abortion, gay marriage, small or large government, what the country spends money on, or other ideas vary by who the person holding the opinion is. You can have a 100% opposing idea as to which way a situation should go than another person but you should never hold it against another person outside of a civil debate. You need to learn how to be respectful of the other person's opinion. You don't have to agree with it, and you don't have to like the way they think. You just have to remember to be kind and control your emotions towards their thoughts and actions appropriately.

If you are like me and sometimes have trouble controlling your temper when something upsets you try to remember how it would feel to have somebody angry at you. It is not tolerable to act uncivilized when you are angry about something another person has said. It is also not okay to be judgmental and disrespectful. There is a time and place when it is appropriate to express your opinion to another person with an opposing idea. Remember to always think about how you would feel if the situation was reversed, and never let your emotions go out of control.
