I left home not really knowing what to expect. With an old laptop in one hand, and manuscripts in the other, I set off for my new workplace. When I finally arrived at the address on the sticky note on my manuscripts, I had to do a double take. 'This building is huge,' I thought. How could I have come from such a small office to this skyscraper? After all, I never expected my work to be this popular. Not that it was easy to reach my goal. But seeing my success displayed in the form of a building, and loyal fans, I knew all that work was worth it. I took a step forward, and with slight hesitation, I entered.
Dreams. You may have been aware of what you want to do with your life since you were a kid. Or for others, it could hit you much later in life. As a teen, in college, or when you're already doing something else! For me, the dream of being a famous author has been stuck behind plans for the future, like something making good money that might still be enjoyable, good vacation time, etc. But just a few days ago, the writer's dream knocked all of that out of the way. It said, "You will study hard for the next few years in school, get stellar grades in English, and apply to Harvard, or Oxford, and study English in one of these prestigious schools. From there, you will start writing. And with ideas in mind, and an education behind you, you'll have everything you'll ever need to live your dream."
Although my dream came early enough to try, it is NEVER, ever too late to follow your dreams. And for those of you who aren't sure about your future yet, your dreams will come. Whether they are a tiny whisper or they hit you like a bag of bricks, everyone has an idea for the future. It doesn't have to be big, like being a famous celebrity, or world renowned scientist. No, it could be something in your society, like being a good doctor, or politician. You might want to be a veterinarian with your own pet store next door. You could be a social worker, taking on family troubles with your head held high. No, it doesn't matter what you want to do as long as you try.
If you're like myself, you may have several conflicting dreams. Not only do I want to be an author, but I would also like to work with animals and the environment. I was considering being a veterinarian, but I wasn't sure how I would feel about surgery. So my latest consideration was an animal rescuer. I thought saving endangered and threatened animals would be a great way to help animals worldwide. So for those of you with more than one dream - perhaps you want to be a film director, but you also want to be a race car driver. Well then make a movie about race car drivers! - the possibilities are endless. All you have to do is believe in yourself and work hard.
So get out there and work on your dreams. And don't worry about success and failure. If you try you really will succeed. And to quote Dr. Seuss in "Oh, the Places You'll Go": And will you succeed? Yes indeed, yes indeed! Ninety-eight and three-quarters percent guaranteed! Kid, you'll move mountains!
So aim your dream cannon high, and shoot for the stars, for the only one who can stop you is yourself!
