This week I continue my search with a dog my boyfriend has wanted his entire life. This dog is known for being a crowd-pleaser with its silly and goofy personality. In fact, some of the funniest videos on YouTube feature this adorable breed. If you haven't already guessed, the next dog I am going to write about is the pug!
Some people think they are ugly, but I think they are super cute! With its curly tail and wrinkly face, what's not to love. They come in four colors: black, fawn, apricot fawn and silver fawn. I personally like the fawn color.
They were bred in China to have those adorable wrinkles. The wrinkles actually form the Chinese symbol for "prince" on their foreheads.
Their adorably short nose can cause some breathing problems. They can get over-heated very quickly and have trouble breathing when it is really hot outside. Sometimes they even snore . . . that's not good for me since I am a very light sleeper.
Another health problem is they have bulging eyes. If you squeeze them too tight, they can even pop out. That would be so scary! You need to watch them closely around children and be careful they don't pull too hard on their leash while walking them.
They are very adaptable to their surroundings, but you do have to be careful about them overheating. You also have to clean out their wrinkles regularly so they do not get infections. Their double coat sheds a lot, so be prepared to vacuum more than you're used to!
They are great with families and are incredibly easy to train. Not to mention they are hilarious! They have some of the best personalities traits a dog can have: funny, smart, charming and lovable.
In case you want to check it out, here's the link to The Pug Head Tilt on YouTube (watched over 2 million times!).
I'll definitely have to keep them in mind. If I go with this breed, I might go with a puggle (a mix between a pug and a beagle) instead of a pug (mainly for health reasons).
