Racism -- most people have experienced it one way or another. It's something I have to deal with on a day to day basis. The color of your skin shouldn't be something you have to 'deal with'. I may act like those little comments don't hurt me, but inside I'm actually fuming. I'm done with hearing black jokes. Just like every other joke it gets old after hearing it constantly. Why does everyone need to be judged by the color of their skin? I thought racism was slowly disappearing, but I just recently noticed it's only hidden.

I hate when people call me "ghetto", "gangster" or question my intelligence just because of the color of my skin. I hate it when people say, "You must be good at basketball, because you're black." First off, I'm biracial, meaning I'm just as much black as I am white. The color of your skin does not affect your skills or ability to do anything, that's just plain ignorance. I hate how the majority of my 'friends' tell racist jokes, even when they're around me.

I was talking to my best friend (of a different race) about racism. I was telling her how it seems like everybody is racist, She agreed and went on about how stupid racism is. I remember thinking, 'Finally someone who actually understands'. That exact same day I heard her refer to somebody as "the N word". I hear that word a lot; people toss it around like it means nothing. If only they understood how much it hurts when I hear all of these racial slurs.

I know sometimes when people are using racial slurs they mean no harm, but then again I don't really have an explanation to why they would want to use offensive words in the first place. All that I ask is that you think before you say something that could possibly be offensive to someone.

If everyone started doing this it would be a big step in the right direction. Everybody is different, be it skin color, shape or size. That shouldn't affect how you think of somebody.

Personally, I'm the kind of person who loves people the way that they are; I don't discriminate against anybody. I just wish people would open their eyes and realize that we're all equal.

I love the skin I'm in, and there isn't a word in the English language that can change that.
