Editor's Note: This article is about the religious meaning behind Christmas. This is not an article meant to promote Christianity, but rather to report on why some people celebrate the holiday. Please remain respectful of everyone's religious beliefs in the BBS.
Christmas. The most joyful time of the year. Everyone is running around, last minute sales, speedy shopping, etc. Why must everyone take the holiday season so fast? Do they even know what Christmas truly is?
Christmas is our savior, Jesus Christ's birthday. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in the manger, he had nothing. He had his Mom, Dad, some rags for clothes, and three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. After seeing how little Jesus had, we still want much more for Christmas. To think only about the presents we hope to receive is pure greed. Greed, one of the seven deadly sins, is not what we want on Jesus's birthday. How can we not be thankful for what our savior was brought to us?
Christmas could not be possible without Blessed Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Conception. Without Mary, Jesus would not have been born. We should be so thankful for Mary.
Advent is the season that leads up to Christmas. In Advent we light the candles on the Advent Wreath. There are four candles, one pink and three purple. Sometimes a white candle is in the center of the wreath. This is known as the Christ candle.
Isaiah 11:1-6 "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them."
This verse is proof that we should slow down and be peaceful. Wolves never are peaceful enough to live with lambs. Leopards would never lie down with kids. We need to calm down this holiday season and think about what is really important.
