Hi, and welcome back to "Fact or Fiction". In case you missed it, the last edition of this series had to do with the very interesting Chupacabra, found here: Fact or Fiction: El Chupacabra. From this American/Latin American myth, we travel up and over to Scotland, where a much different kind of creature is talked about - and supposedly seen. As you may have guessed, this article will have to do with the Loch Ness Monster.
This popular monster has been identified by several people as being a very large, dark colored sea serpent of some sort. Many say it looks like a water-dwelling dinosaur from long ago.
I decided to start off with this picture so that you could get an idea of what the Loch Ness Monster supposedly looks like. Throughout the years, many people have photographed strange objects on Loch Ness. Several of the more recent pictures have been photoshopped to fit the monster's appearance criteria, but many pictures were from quite a long time ago, such as probably the most famous photograph of "Nessie" yet.
In 1994, researcher Alastair Boyd announced that he had proof that this picture was a fake. He said that what has been thought to be the Loch Ness Monster, is really a plastic gray head and neck stuck to a toy submarine. Many people believed this explanation, but some scientists say that since this picture was also taken along with several other action shots, the gray head and neck could not have been supported by a simple toy. Either way, it seems as if no one can quite put their finger on what this mysterious picture is really of.
The last picture I'm going to show today is an action shot taken in 1933 by a man named Hugh Gray. Though this picture is very old (and has had plenty of time to be disproved) it has not. No one has any legitimate evidence against this picture of what is supposedly the Loch Ness Monster swimming in the waters. (I apologize if it is of poor quality. I couldn't make it any larger without losing a bit of the quality.)
Today hopefully you have seen some interesting pictures that have opened your mind a bit on this very interesting creature. No one knows all that much about this serpent-like monster, but almost everyone can agree that it surely is puzzling. There are many groups out there that are trying to catch the Loch Ness Monster, directly locate it, take pictures of it, film videos of it, find it via submarine, and simply figure out what it is!
Though there is much controversy about this creature, I want you to ask yourself this: Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?
