Hello Whyvillians! Lately, I've been thinking about the City Workers, and how there's been a lot of buzz about them lately. How some people do not appreciate what they do for Whyville, and how some of them are just downright rude and disrespectful to them. Crazyinnc's article inspired me to get some other people's opinions on the City Workers and find out what they think of all this mess.
dxdxdxdx: Which City Worker is your favorite and why?
Cosinki: Hmm, they're all great but I'd have to say CakelTame. He gives straightforward answers and it seems like he actually listens to us.
MeBeLizzi: CakelTame. Because, he's helpful, yet fun at the same time. His replies to our questions on the BBS can be quite entertaining. Especially when he uses his bold/italic typing privileges to create emphasis on an answer. And he's pretty good at sarcasm. LoL.
Toolshed: My favorite CW is Lopan because he has always answered my questions, and helped me out when I needed him.
Kittypet: Scyllacat, because he's been around forever and he doesn't bother anyone.
Ocean10kv: I have two favorite city workers, Lopan and AMae. I like AMae because she runs my favorite part of Whyville . . . the Times! Lopan is one of my favorites because well . . . he's hilarious. He relates really well to all the kids on here and I think most people get along with him.
dxdxdxdx: Do you believe the City Workers are doing anything to improve Whyville? Why or why not?
Cosinki: Well I'd like to believe that they are trying to improve Whyville as much as they can, but I don't really know what goes on behind the curtain.
MeBeLizzi: They try their best. Most citizens need to realize that the jobs that City Workers do, TAKE TIME. If they could have things done in the blink of an eye, they probably wouldn't have a job. They need to program things precisely, and depending on which City Worker does what, is how fast things can be done.
Toolshed: I believe that the CWs are doing their best to make Whyville a better place. Some ideas the citizens won't like and some ideas they will.
Kittypet: I believe they WANT to do things to improve Whyville but I also believe they're milking the "we can't make even the slightest advancement without more funding" card.
Ocean10kv: I do indeed believe that City Workers are doing things to improve Whyville! They have made different adjustments to Whyville to try keep their citizens happy. For example, people were complaining for years and years about expiring face parts, so the City Workers finally got rid of face parts expiring! The fact that they listen to what we want makes me believe they are improving Whyville.
dxdxdxdx: What is your opinion on the people who are being rude to the City Workers?
Cosinki: I think they're being ungrateful. CW's do a lot of stuff for us, we shouldn't expect them to be all nice and perfect every second of the day. I've been annoyed with them a couple, well a bunch, of times myself; but considering all the work they've put into Whyville over the years, I've managed to forgive them.
MeBeLizzi: To be honest, if I knew them in real life, I would hunt them down and throw pies at them. It's annoying to see these people disrespect the adults that give us a world to be ourselves in.
Toolshed: I believe people should treat the CW's with more respect. They keep Whyville running for us, and we want it to stay.
Kittypet: I think there are a lot of people being excessively rude. I'm not always the nicest but when I make an off remark it's usually witty or sarcastic . . . Some of these kids are just downright mean.
Ocean10kv: I don't think highly of people who are rude to City Workers. Without the City Workers we would not have Whyville. Simple as that.
dxdxdxdx: Would you ever want to be a City Worker? Why or why not?
Cosinki: Hmm, it doesn't really sound like my cup of tea.
MeBeLizzi: I've thought about it many times, and I can't come up with a definite answer. Yes, because I would love to have kids look up to me and enjoy playing on the site I work hard to make fun, but no, because if you've noticed, the majority of Whyville's population are young teenagers that have been citizens on an account since they were 8 or 9 years old. They tend to be snippy and impatient with City Workers.
Toolshed: I have thought about being a City Worker. I have been on Whyville since '07 and I know what needs to be fixed and what needs to be added. I fill most of the requirements, except the living area.
Kittypet: I don't think Whyville would ever allow me to be a City Worker even if I wanted to, haha. But no, from the sound of it they don't even have a high enough salary to make a living and I'd like to do something more than sitting at a computer all day.
Ocean10kv: I would love to be a City Worker! Like seriously, if I ever go to LA for vacation or something, I will stalk down their office, go in there, and try get a job . . . Although I know I wouldn't get it. I'd love to be a City Worker because I'm really interested in computers and what-not, and I love Whyville, it's a part of me. So having a job working for Whyville would be a dream job for me.
dxdxdxdx: Have you ever been ignored by a City Worker when you've asked a question or made a comment?
Cosinki: No, but I have received numerous sarcastic answers.
MeBeLizzi: Nope. Whether the comment is serious or silly, I've always gotten an answer. City Hall even whispered to me one time!
Toolshed: I have been ignored by City Workers in mail by asking a certain question. I think they are probably too busy to answer, or they didn't want to answer the question. Sometimes the City Workers can be rude to us citizens, but we got to learn not to take it to heart.
Kittypet: Oh of course, but sometimes it's unintentional, such as at meet the makers. They've got thirty eager 12 year olds trying to joke around with them and then maybe three people asking serious questions. It's hard to keep track.
Ocean10kv: Yes, several times. I think this is because if they're in a chat room there and so many other people are talking to them at once. It might get overwhelming and they might not get a chance to answer your question.
dxdxdxdx: What do you think City Workers should/shouldn't do to improve Whyville?
Cosinki: I really don't know. It'll be interesting to see who wins the Senate Race and what (if any) ideas they choose to put into action though.
MeBeLizzi: Even though they try hard, one of the things that City Workers don't take into consideration, is the chat filters. I'm pretty sure they all know what "bookerface" is by now, and since we have the piggyback app, and a Whyville "like" page, I find it silly that we can't say the real name of the website. Also, we're teens, we're gonna swear. We all find our ways around the filters somehow, so why not lighten up and let us say "OMFG" and "WTH".
Toolshed: There is a lot the City Workers should do to improve Whyville. Hopefully some of the elected Senator's ideas will be used to improve. It would also be awesome if Whyville got rid on some of the unused chat rooms.
Kittypet: Well, I stated a lot of what I think is possible to do regarding improving Whyville in my Senate platform, but for a start I think they've got the right idea with the new no-expiring face parts rule.
Ocean10kv: To improve Whyville I think City Workers should try make it so there's less restrictions on face parts, like shirt lengths and stuff like that. They should also try answer all of their citizens questions. Something they shouldn't do to improve Whyville is make huge changes to the site. A lot of people don't like change, and it makes a site a little less appealing, I find, if it's changing all the time.
Looks like most of the people I interviewed are in agreement that City Workers are doing their best and they respect the City Workers. In my opinion, I believe that the users on Whyville that don't respect the City Workers should not be on this website, because it's the City Workers that take the time to make Whyville a better place for everyone. Sure, you cannot please everyone; but I believe that there is NO reason for people to be malicious to the people who make Whyville possible. Sometimes you may not like what they have to say to you, but at least they take the time to respond to your questions instead of ignoring you. Think about it, without City Workers, we wouldn't get our questions answered in the "Ask The City Workers" section of the BBS. We also wouldn't have the Times, and other privileges and festivities that they City Workers give to us. It's not that hard to respect them; they take the time to give you Whyville, so you should all appreciate it. If you don't like what they're doing, then I believe you don't belong on this website. They dedicate their time to us, so they deserve our respect.
Also, my favorite City Workers are CakelTame, AMae & Lopan. CakelTame is a favorite of mine because he takes the time to reply to people on the BBS, regardless of how mean or rude the people are to him. CakelTame in my opinion, is one of the biggest contributors to us by answering our questions instead of ignoring us. Cakel, I want to thank you for all that you do, and even though some people don't appreciate you; you're a big part of keeping Whyville going. AMae is another favorite because she makes the Times possible. Without her, I wouldn't be able to send in the things I write, and share them with people across the globe. So thank you AMae; for making the Times possible, and going through the mails to put the Times together. I also thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting my articles in; it's an amazing opportunity to be able to share my stories with people. And last but certainly not last, Lopan. Lopan is a favorite, because he has a great sense of humor, and never fails to make me laugh. I caught him at Beach: South once, and he gratefully listens to everyone who talks to him, and he was totally the life of the party that night. So Lopan, thank you for giving humor to Whyville. Some people may not appreciate that, but I love that you can be so fun; it brightens my day. LOPAN ANGRY! RAWR. Haha!
Thank you for reading; I give a special thanks to Cosinki, MeBeLizzi, Toolshed, Kittypet, and Ocean10kv for their wonderful answers. I also want to thank EVERY City Worker, even if they weren't mentioned; because you are all amazing. Thank you for giving us the Whyville we have today.
Until next time!
