1. Question: How to get a salary?
Answer: In your salary ledger you will find a list containing all the games you can play to earn clams. Some games are more challenging than others. There is one kind of game you might not be able to play though. That is the Solstice Safari. Safaris occur at certain times of the year. If you are lucky and the Safari is happening right now, you should sign up for it to learn about many things. In addition, your salary also goes up AND you might get bonus clams! Also, make sure to read the directions on the games if you are confused. That will benefit you.
2. Question: How to get extra clams?
Answer: Other ways to get clams, besides just from your salary, is by designing face parts at the Face Factory. Your face parts can be bought at a price you name at Akbar's Body Parts. There are 4 sizes of body parts. You will need a name, price, and quantity for each part you design. Another way of making some clams is, if you have extra face parts, furniture, or bricks that you are not using, you may auction them in the Trading Post. Whyvillians can bid on each object. Trading Post auctions end after 3 days. Your money will then be sent to you along with any left over parts.
3. Question: How do I get a face?
Answer: If you first start out on Whyville and you have little or no clams you can always go to Grandma's, the Whyville charity. Grandma can provide you with body parts, bricks, and furniture that other Whyvillians have donated. After that, you go to "Pick Your Nose" and have fun putting together your face. Another good location to find good deals on face parts is the Trading Post. You can bid on (an) item(s) and if you are the highest bidder when the auction ends, Whyville will send you the item. However, if you have clams, you can go to Akbar's Body Parts and buy the body parts other Whyvillians have designed at the Face Factory.
4. Question: How do I get a house?
Answer: The first thing you need in order to get a house is to get a plot from the Land Office. Then you should buy bricks at the Brick Emporium or go to Grandma's -- occasionally she might have some bricks. After you get a room, go to the Furniture Farm or again, Grandma's, to decorate the inside of your house.
* I know there are a scarce number of plots at the Land Office, but if you're lucky, you might just get one! Patience...
5. Question: What are "guests" in a person's house and how do you become one?
Answer: When you are a guest, you share another Whyvillian's house. However, you may not decorate it or any such things like that.
To become a guest in an individual's house, the owner must first go to City Records and then add you to their address book. Then they will need to go to their satchel, and click on their handy dandy Guest Book. There will be a list of people on it and they must click on your name. Then click "add". To remove a Whyvillian from your "Guest List" you must go to your Guest Book again and click on the person who you want removed. Then press "remove".
6. Question: How do you warn, vaporize, or silence?
Answer: If you are in a chat room (ex. The Pool Party) and you see someone "acting up" (swearing, cursing, asking for personal information, passwords, etc.) you have three ways to warn them that what they're doing is wrong. You can warn them, which puts a yellow X on their face the first time, a red mark on their face the second time, and the third time they will be kicked out (of the chat room). You can only warn a person once -- those extra times have to come from other people who agree that person is misbehaving.
If it gets more severe, you can use the silence tool, which makes it so you cannot see anything he/she is saying. There are 2 kinds of silencing tools, a permanent silence, and normal silence. The difference is pretty self-explanatory.
Just like there are 2 kinds of silencing tools, there are also 2 kinds of vaporizing tools (used when things get really bad), permanent and not permanent. Once you vaporize someone, they will not appear on your screen any more.
The most serious offense might call for a "911 report". That is when you think that person is a real threat to Whyvillians! Do not use this to get back at somebody, win an argument, etc. Tampering with this tool may cause you to lose a week of chatting privileges or worse, get banned! I'm not joking!
7. Some chatting pointers...
As you might know, chatting is very popular in Whyville. There are many chat rooms, including the Pool Party, Sun Roof, Spin Speak, etc. Your chatting privilege can be taken away from you through tapings if you show negative behavior or if someone reports you. These are some things you should NEVER give to ANYONE in the chat rooms:
- Your full name.
- Your phone number.
- Your address or any other person information.
- YOUR PASSWORD (Once they hack into your account, you can lose EVERYTHING, plus they can read your why-mail!)
Also, if the person promises to give you a "makeover", raise your salary, etc. etc. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! For all you know, they might be trying to hack you. The person might seem harmless, but you never know. After all, Whyville is not real.
8. Question: What is the Whyology Center?
Answer: First of all, Whyology is the study of WHYVILLE! The Whyology Center is dedicated to that. It's a place where Whyvillians (like you and I) can learn more about Whyville. It's closed down right now, but hopefully they'll open up again someday so we can continue learning about why our town works the way it does.
9. Question: What is Club Why and the Why House?
Answers: The Why House is the connection to the Whyology Center and Club Why. Club Why is a place where you can show your gratitude and support for Whyville. To join Club Why you must give $12 a year or 1000 clams. When you are a member, you get to do many exclusive things like take a special photo session for a membership's card, visit the Member's Only Club Room, test the beta-test new games, and get exclusive celebration parties at the Disco! You can also plan your own parties!
