Hello Whyvillians, and welcome to the Whyville version of the popular TV show, "What Would You Do?" On "What Would You Do," real people are put in situations. For example, normal people shopping at a grocery store encounter a lady fighting with an overweight mom and daughter (all actors) about what food they are eating. Do people agree with the woman, and tell the overweight mom to be healthier, do they ignore it, or do they defend the mother? What do they do when they find out it was all caught on camera? The TV series is very good, and shows what people will do in odd situations. I wanted to bring that to Whyville.
For my first week, I decided to see how people will react to someone being extremely mean to a Newbie. I took my actors to South Beach. I introduced myself, saying I was new to Whyville. (Can you see my hidden cookie avatar?)
After that, the rude Oldbie came in, and the camera started rolling. Here you can see the action at it's climax. (The rude Oldbie is the one at the top in the pick hat, as it is hard to see. The Newbie is somewhat blocked by a quote below and to the left of the Oldbie.)
After that, I jumped out, and surprised everyone by announcing that it was all a set up. I then went over to talk to people about it.
Cowcow32 had joined our Oldbie in insulting the Newbie. When I asked her why she joined in, she responded by saying she didn't want to call our Oldbie mean. She said she thought our Newbie was rude for calling the Oldbie mean, and joined in on insulting him.
Then, I tried it again with different people at South Beach.
Again, I announced it was a setup, and went up to ask SadlyMe about why she joined in on the arguments. At first, she ignored me.
Eventually, I was able to get her to talk to me.
Xion2: Why did you join in?
SadlyMe: It is a fun social networking site.
Xion2: So, insulting Newbies is fun?
SadlyMe: Well . . . no.
Xion2: Then why did you join in?
SadlyMe: Because, if they are going to survive out in the real world, they better be prepared.
Money05 insulted our Oldbie and defended the Newbie. I went up to ask him about it.
Xion2: Why did you stand up for the Newbie?
Money05: Because they were rudely picking on him.
Xion2: So, you're ok with Newbies?
Money05: Most don't bother me . . . I don't really have an opinion I guess.
I wanted to see if people would act differently in different chat rooms. My actors and I headed over to The Woods.
At The Woods, we encountered two problems. One, some people seemed too distracted by the new results of the Casey Anthony trial. On top of that, a couple of people recognized our Oldbie, and realized it was probably some sort of set up.
