The Backstory to BG

Hey everyone! I read Tara's article on Bessy/George, the pool floaty toy, today. I liked it, but I thought I'd share the real story behind Bessy/George!

All right, here's how it started: googles and I were at the pool party, just sitting around. Then, we saw the floaty toy and decided to make a name for it. We kept on thinking of names, and all of a sudden we came up with Bessy. Then, we came up with George. Googles and I made it up.

This was back in early 2001. Googles and I were at the pool, talking about it. I liked both names, so we decided to put them together and make it Bessy/George. We figured one animal couldn't have two names, so we thought it would be awesome to make Bessy the front part with the head, and George the back part. After coming to that conclusion, we realized that George has no head! Googles and I kept on trying to think of a way to make poor George have a head. This didn't work out.

Now Googles, being the creative person she is, decided that George would be dead, and without a head. George died because of unknown reasons. Bessy really likes George, so she drags him around all day long. If Bessy didn't have George they wouldn't be a team, and Bessy's smile would turn into a frown.

Now, to sum it up:

  1. The pool toy's name is Bessy/George.
  2. Bessy is the front part, George is the back part.
  3. George died because of unknown reasons.
  4. Bessy really likes George, so she drags him around all day.

Well, now you know the story of Bessy/George. The next time you're trying to say it's your ex-girlfriend, you're gonna think of poor Bessy having to carry around George, and not some other made-up names/stories.
