Saying Goodbye to My Baby

She practically leaped into the car, anxious to tell me about Skyla, a girl who sat next to her, and how she helped two kids do a puzzle. To tell me all about the story that was read to them, about the page she colored. She continued to talk until we got home, 10 minutes later.

Thursday, was my little sister's first day of school. (It wasn't Monday, because they have only a few kids Monday, a few kids Tuesday, and so on, until Friday, when they all came in.)

It's odd to think that my baby is in school. She'll be making friends, doing homework, learning how to read, and so many more things. She has 13 more years of this. 13 years to learn everything.

How could it have only been five years ago that I sat in the hospital with the rest of my siblings, waiting and waiting? Feeling a rush of excitement when they told me that I now had a little sister. Holding the newborn in my arms.

Thursday, she started a whole new chapter of her little life. Her future is ahead of her, and only she can possibly know the direction it will go.
