We were all once a child
Before novels, the movies, girl and boyfriends
Well, I was and I would cry
I'd hope never to have to see the end
I'd kiss her head and I'd fall asleep
And in my dreams she would be with me
That's when my heart was hers
Filled with love

If I wake up
And see her fur
And see her face
And hear her purr again
I'd never sleep 'cause I'd leave my friend
I can't wait till I
Meet with Allie again

Sometimes, she'd climb up and accidentally
She'd stretch her legs out and end up scratching me
I often wished she would go away and maybe then
She'd never bother me, she'd live with someone else instead

The next morning I woke hesitantly
I called her name, she didn't answer me
Couldn't tell if she
Was ignoring me . . .

So, if I pray
And search real far
And hope to find her
And touch the scar she gave
Would she come running back to my bed?
I would hug her long
Can't wait till I meet her again

I loved her then and forevermore
Though there were times I wished her away
She loved and left unintentionally
I guess that's how it was meant to be
There's more to life than
A silly love
But, I can't stand when
It goes undreamed of
I'm always broken emotionally
'Cause I know I'm trying
But I just keep finding the end
