"Lirael", the second book in The Old Kingdom series, and the sequel to "Sabriel" by Garth Nix, is action packed, and captivating.

Lirael is the daughter of a Clayr. The Clayr see the future. But Lirael is different. Unlike the Clayr's long blond hair and easily tanned skin, she has pale white skin and jet black hair. Her mother left her when she was five, and she never knew her father. Oh, and there's one more thing. She doesn't have the Sight. So she's a real outcast in the Clayr's glacier. But Lirael finds something she loves to do, and it takes her mind off of her differences. She decides to become a librarian. Now the library at the glacier isn't your average library. The books are dangerous, and even more threatening creatures live hidden in the Old Levels.

Now Prince Sameth, he's the son of the King Touchstone, and Queen-Abhorsen Sabriel. He's also the supposed Abhorsen-in-waiting. But he's on a mission to rescue his friend from this Necromancer that is intent on sending 20,000 dead creatures into the Old Kingdom and creating chaos so that the Kingdom falls. Lots of drama here right??

This is the story of Lirael, her companion the Disreputable Dog, Sameth, and the Abhorsen's servant Mogget, as they take on evil forces that are at work putting together a scheme that has been planned for over 300 years . . .

Highlights of this Book:

This book is action packed! If you like action and drama, this is another great read for you.

Plenty of details. You won't get confused, as long as you read the descriptions.

Minor romance . . . Lirael, Sameth, and someone else . . . But I'm not saying anything to spoil!!

Comedy. The Disreputable Dog is hilarious. She's Lirael's best friend, and she loves to antagonize . . .

Sore Spots:

This is a pretty long, complicated read. A total of 698 pages! But it's totally worth it.

Overall Rating:

10 out of 10

If you want to find out what happens next in the series, read Garth Nix's third YA novel, "Abhorsen".

Happy reading everyone!
