An Extra Dose of SCAM

Sonner
Times Writer

Hi, this is Sonner, here just to inform you that there is another scam hitting Whyville!

Here is what I read...

This is very IPORTANT!! There is hackers everywhere on Whyville. And my staff membersand I are trying to stop them. We need YOUR help!! All we need is your password so we can put a special code on your name, so that hackers can't hack you. Soon we will get a code on everyones name. Sp please help me, just email us your password.

    Thankyou.
    Whyville Manager.

This is just another scam. It does not really surprise me, because these people are just mean. Sheesh, they don't even spell very well!

If you are a newbie and you get a Y-mail from someone asking for your password, they will just hack you and you will never see that account again. I know who sent this but I don't think I should say. But clearly that person made a phony account and made that mail so City Hall cannot punish that person's main account.

How do you deal with these Y-mails? I just delete them and you don't have to worry about it. Maybe someday we'll have a way to report these things, but right now that's about all you can do. And write in scam reports to the Times!

You see City Hall telling you to never ever share your password. She doesn't say it for her health.

Till next time, I'm Sonner. Bye!

Hey, this is orange18 here. I guess you could call this another scam. It has been around for a long long time and I haven't seen it in the Times yet, so here is a warning about it. If someone is at the Pool Party or Playground or wherever you may be and they say:

"GET OFF WHYVILLE! ITS A VIRUS!"

or "GET OFF WHYVILLE! ITS GONNA CRASH YOUR COMPUTER!"

They are only saying this because they probably want someone else to get on Whyville on another account. So don't get off Whyville just because someone is telling a lie. I know how hard it can be to get on!

Ttyl ppl!

I was on my other account that I just got 7 days ago, and today (April 20, 2002) someone sends me an e-mail saying:

congragulations, u have been chosen for the nicest person award, u r capable of winning 3000 clams but the only way u can win is to tell me ur password now y-mail me back and tell me ur password so i know ur not an imposter (fake) ok thank you

    from: city council helper

So, now I'm talking to this girl and asking her y she needs my password -- she tells me it's to make sure I'm not a hacker. So I tell her my password and she says it's not the right password, but it was, so she leaves and comes back five minutes later, and somehow she was on my account at the same time I was, and my password has been changed! I log off and go to come back on later and guess what... I get "its the wrong password". Of course. So I go to get the password sent to my e-mail and it doesn't send! She takes all the clams, and then she changes all the settings. It's gone.

Whyvillians, beware this person! Please, if you get a y-mail like this one, don't reply to it! Report her ASAP!!!

Thank you for reading this,
Sk8adude signing off!!! Peace out, Whyville !
