There are so many people in this world with the ability to write.
Some walk around, hiding behind their notebooks. Others walk around, taking pictures with people because they are famous for their New York Times Bestsellers. But what really is writing?
The official definition is "to form characters or symbols on a surface with an instrument (as a pen)" . To me, though, it's so much more than that. To write, is to have a passion to write. It's to be capable of enjoying to write. What would it matter, if you could write amazing, but you thought it was terribly boring and hated doing it? Sure, you could say you write well, but that's it, isn't it? Yet if you wrote sort of average, and you LOVED writing, well, it's an entirely different story.
If you loved writing, you would be more likely to write more. Therefore improving your skill. Then you love writing and you write great. Everybody wins.
I have a friend.
We'll call her Gracie. She loves writing, but doesn't have much time to do it. But every single time she picks up a pen, beautiful, amazing words flow out, almost as if by magic onto the paper. Gracie is very humble though. She doesn't think her writing is great. In fact, she thinks it's quite bad, despite all the compliments she is given. She writes purely for the love of writing. Not to make amazing poetry, not to write famous books, just to write. If you are a writer, I encourage you to act more like Gracie. Write only if you want to, though. Don't force it out.
Follow your heart. If writing isn't your niche, then find what is. Maybe it's art, or theater. Or maybe it's spelling, or math. Maybe it's as simple as being a good friend, or as complex as saving lives.
I know a good percentage of you are reading this thinking, 'I don't have a talent'. Or ' I'm not good at anything.' I don't blame you. I've felt like this before, many times. Just remember, you are good at something. Whether it large or small, teensy or huge, it's there and it's unique to you.
