When you come to a fork in the road, a choice that may not be worth choosing, or a decision you can't seem to make, don't take the first steps. Remember what road you want to go down, and don't stray from it for even a second. It is so easy to get off the right path, but in those seconds before you make a choice you'll end up regretting, remember that once you are out there in the open, you aren't protected anymore. You could end up making a decision that you'll deeply wish you wouldn't have made, and you could end up losing touch with the person you are, and the potential you once had.
It isn't worth it to live in the moment when your whole future is following that point in time. When you are faced with two choices, choose the one with long-term happiness, not short-term distraction. No matter what decision you make, you will live with it for the rest of your life. Don't take baby steps down the road of regret. It's those first few inches you go and those few extra measures you take that will haunt you the most.
No one is perfect. We all have our flaws, our insecurities, our weaknesses. And, we will all have moments when we will be caught with our guard down and our vulnerability showing. It is in those crucial times when we have to remind ourselves who we really are. Deep down, there is something special about each and every one of us, and there is a potential we cal all live up to. We just have to remember that no matter what is going on in the now, there is something better waiting later.
The hardest part of breaking an addiction or changing something you dislike about yourself is knowing that you started it and chose wrong decisions in the beginning. There is no greater feeling in those moments than regret. It will anger you and frustrate you and twist your thoughts. You will want to scream because of how badly you wish you never chose to put something or someone so damaging in your life. You will fight it everyday and tell yourself you are better than it, that you are more powerful. You will start to move on from it and reshape your life to fit a better mold. You will, more times than not, end up going back to it.
If you find yourself heading backwards and towards the physically, emotionally, or socially damaging thing your life, you need to remind yourself that you control your actions, and that you have the ability to choose "no" every time you pick "yes". Sometimes you won't want to think that it is ultimately up to you what happens to yourself in the end, but if you don't remember the power you possess you won't be able to keep going in the right direction.
Respect yourself, love yourself, and get to know yourself. There is no one else exactly like you out there, and there is so much that you will experience in your life that will help you better understand the 'u' in 'you.' Figure out what strengths you have, and play to their advantage. Each and every one of us owe it to ourselves to remember that we are strong, potentially wonderful people who can do many great things in life. We can overcome what problems we have, and we can conquer whatever trials we may be faced with.
In those few moments before you make a decision you know is wrong, remember the person you are, and how deeply you could regret the poor choice. If you have already made the mistake before, I urge you not to go back to it. I wish I would have completely understood this earlier in my life, and though I had heard it before, I never realized how powerful some things can be, and how out of touch I became with myself through its influence. Little mistakes add up, big mistakes' consequences pay up, and nothing will be regretted more than those first steps on the way down. Don't take the path that will end in misery; don't go down the road of regret.
