ACHOO! I apologize, I got pepper in my nose . . . ACHOO! ACHOO! Today, I am going to be explaining why pepper makes your body go into sternutation. Sternutation means sneezing, in a fancier term? . . . ACHOO!
WHY?
An irritant inside the pepper called Piperine gets released when you shake pepper into your food, or when you crush pepper. When it's finally in the air, it gets into your nose, making you sneeze. Piperine triggers nerves inside the nose, then it will reflex back by sneezing. Sneezing is the body's way of getting the irritant out of your system.
HOW TO STOP IT?
If you want to stop pepper from making you sneeze, well you're out of luck. There is no permanent solution to stopping your sternutation reflexes, but there are definitely ways to assist in sneezing less. Use a pepper-mill to grind fresh pepper, so there is less pepper dust in the air. Also, if it comes to desperate measures, use a surgical mask! Haha.
FUN FACT?
Did you know that when you sneeze, air rushes out of your nose at 100 MILES PER HOUR!? That's some powerful stuff! Also, did you know that pepper is known as the "King of Spices" because it's one of the most popular, oldest spices in the world!
