We Shouldn't Be Mean

Hi, my name is Libra and I'm 13.
Even though it's past black history month,
We shouldn't be mean.
I read a book on slavery,
Back then the whites had no dignity.
They whipped and hurt a slave.
But the slaves were strong and were very brave.
They tried to find their way to freedom.
Some of them made it to Canada, to them Canada was a kingdom.
Others weren't so lucky and struggled.
They dreamed that the day would be mild.
They prayed that they wouldn't be tortured no more,
That their "masters" would pity them and give them a blanket to cope with the sleeping on the floor.
But their dreams didn't come true.
They were made fun of and beat up too.
But now black and white people are free,
And that's the way it should always be.
I know it's past black history month, but shouldn't we always be nice, no matter what people look like???
