Let's get real for a second
And take a look at reality
The world isn't exactly
What we make it seem to be
Boys lie, cheat, and play games with your heart
Girls cry, and look down on themselves right from the start
Parents and teachers, they expect nothing but the best
But my best isn't their best and mine isn't in their interest
We plaster on smiles and laughs daily
Then go home and take them off and wonder why everyone's so lazy
Can't they see right through the plastic?
Why can't they see these masks?
Cuz they're too used to their own to have to pay any attention
All they care about is themselves,
Kids worry more about staying out of detention
The world is messed up, twisted and crazy
And the human population's eyesight is getting hazy
No one sees the reality of it anymore
People come to you and ask for help and you just slam the door
But if were looking at reality, there's always someone who stands out
They make an effort to help someone even when they have some doubts
And sometimes they don't even realize how much they really did help
Until they open up their eyes and look around . . .
Let's get real for a second
And take a look at reality
The world isn't exactly
What we make it seem to be
But we can make a difference if we try, starting with just you and me
