Hi everyone! I'm here to talk about a touchy subject. Cyberbullying. The term cyberbullying started happening when technology first started coming out. It provided a way to bully others without being "seen". Cyberbullying keeps getting worse and worse. Is there any possible solution to stop it? In my opinion, no. Cyberbullying can only stop, if and only if, everyone stops completely, which will never happen. There will always be that one person who thinks it's funny to poke around in people's business, and make fun.
I've interviewed a few people on the touchy subject.
Emofire: What are YOUR thoughts on cyberbullying?
Nicenfun: Cyberbullying has become extremely important these days. Since we are so involved with technology, it is almost impossible to get away from cyberbullying. People need to take it seriously and not let it go unheard.
xOliviax4: Cyberbullying is a horrible thing. It's just as bad as bullying in real life.
Thatsepic: I think it's wrong and very unnecessary. It can be very disruptive and I strongly am opposed to it.
Emofire: What's the first word that comes to mind when you see cyberbullying in action?
Nicenfun: The first word that comes to mind when I see cyberbullying is "devastating". No one wants to be bullied and no one deserves to be. Those words can do a lot of damage to someone.
xOliviax4: Hurt. Cyberbullying can hurt someone's feelings just like bullying in real life.
Thatsepic: Disgusting. I am DISGUSTED if I see it happen. It says so much about a person if they cyberbully and it's not a good thing.
Emofire: Do you do anything to help or do you just stand by and watch it happen?
Nicenfun: Sometimes it is hard to distinguish what is considered to be playful jokes between friends and actual cyberbullying -- especially on Whyville. Generally, I don't do anything to stop it here on Whyville because I am unsure of when it is true cyberbullying. If I notice it outside of Whyville on a social networking site, I usually step in and say something.
xOliviax4: To be honest, sometimes I just stand by. There's those times where I try to stop the bully or when I tell an adult.
Thatsepic: I always try to help if I see someone putting another down.
Emofire: Is there any way you think cyberbullying can be stopped?
Nicenfun: Cyberbullying, in my opinion, will always be a problem and cannot be fully resolved. There is always going to be that one person who doesn't care if people's feelings are getting hurt. Cyberbullying can only be managed.
xOliviax4: I don't think so. There's a lot of people in this world that has devices that you can use to communicate with other people, but if you're in a situation that involves cyberbullying, you can ignore the bully or just tell an adult to stop the bully.
Thatsepic: I honestly don't think that it can be stopped. The only way for it to truly end is for people to stop doing it.
Emofire: What are your final thoughts on cyberbullying?
Nicenfun: Cyberbullying, no matter the level of seriousness of the situation, should never be taken lightly. If you are a victim of cyberbullying, know that it isn't your fault and you're not alone. Don't be afraid to speak up about what is going on. If you are the cyberbully, put yourself in your victim's shoes. Any little thing can hurt someone, so please, take their feelings into consideration and stop.
xOliviax4: People should not cyberbully. The effect of cyberbullying can harm someone's emotions and get to the point where someone might cut or even worse, suicide.
Thatsepic: I think people need to understand that what they do can really hurt a person and stop before it gets to the breaking point.
Cyberbullying is a HUGE subject, just because it's on the Internet, doesn't mean that it can't hurt that person. I've been cyberbullied, and it's just . . . it's hard. Whenever I see someone getting bullied, I want to help them. Everyone has been bullied or cyberbullied at SOME point in their life, or will be sometime in their life. Bullying is the number one cause of teen suicide. Why take away something as precious as a life? This Wednesday, I'd like everyone to wear something red to stop bullying. I'd like to give a big thanks to Nicenfun, xOliviax4, and Thatsepic. Thank you for your time.
