Greetings! Many people already know that there are two main labels on Whyville. The "Oldbies", and the "Newbies". You probably already know what I'm talking about, and either agree or disagree with my reasoning. Anyways, I have asked a diverse group of citizens to answer honestly, regarding the labels many of us are given on Whyville.
Funkchik1: How are you treated as a citizen on Whyville by those that have been a member longer than you?
Marchi97: Not really good.
Funkchik1: Is it worth being friendly to Newbies? Are you friendly, or do you just ignore them?
Doodle971: I think that Oldbies treat Newbies horribly because they want to be left alone and have fun, by doing what they do on here. I also think that others think Newbies are annoying. At times, yes they are, but they have patience. Patience is a virtue!
Weird1331: I'm friendly to Newbies. I'll talk to anyone as long as the conversations interesting. I know a lot of people who just ignore them because they usually only want their clams. Most Newbies only beg for clams, and when you don't give them any, they start calling you names. After a while, it gets annoying and you stop responding to people.
Funkchik1: How do you treat Newbies when they talk to you? How did others treat you when you were a Newbie?
AliChic: I usually try to talk to them, or answer their questions, but I couldn't say I treat them the greatest. People always treated me poorly. They picked on me, called me names, and just acted like they were better than me. I think that the way people treat Newbies is ridiculous most of the time!
Funkchik1: To this day, how are Newbies treated? Why do you think that some Oldbies treat Newbies without respect?
Xion2: I think it depends on WHO the Newbie talks to. At times, people will be kind to them. However, generally, Newbies are mistreated. Let me say that Oldbies DO NOT mistreat Newbies. A lot of "WANNABEE" Oldbies who have only been on for a few months, (are really Newbies themselves) mistreat Newbies, and they think it's cool doing so. They think that it makes them seem like an Oldbie. Real Oldbies, (who have been on for a few years or so) are quite kind to Newbies, if they are respectful to you.
Now that you've read the various opinions of citizens on Whyville, you probably realize that there are many different perspectives on the labels of Whyville. Regardless of your opinion, it is evident that not everyone is treated with the respect they deserve. Hopefully, as a virtual community, we can come together, and have fun on Whyville, peacefully, and respectively!
