A Greater Understanding

I wrote an article for the paper that the editor titled Would Keeping Whyville Small Be Better? Basically, it was about how I didn't really see how making a poster benefits us, the citizens of Whyville. Like, I know the logical answer, needing to grow, raise awareness, money... but I was also thinking along other lines. Sort of like, try adding another 100,000 people to Whyville -- it might just be a larger version then we have now, with people complaining about not being able to get in, or getting kicked off and such.

The Editor replied at the bottom of my article, so in case you didn't read it, I think you should. To summarize it, the way that I was thinking was totally wrong. And a lot of people seem to think the same way.

The editor said: "You have a very popular misunderstanding that by not increasing the size of Whyville, we'll somehow be able to maintain our town the way it is. That's just not true."

Well, see, I didn't know that. I also had no idea that the company is still losing money. So this means that Whyville could possibly be in the danger of shutting down one of these days. Without sponsors or advertisers, Whyville won't become well known, and if we aren't well known, nobody will be interested in us. Now, we have a chance to show the people in Regina and get them into Whyville. Although Why-Passes pay for servers allowing us all to get into Whyville, we need another source to keep Whyville up and running, to stop it from crashing.

Think about it. What would you do if Whyville shut down? I know I'd spend a lot less time on the computer. Some of you might go to a considerably smaller (and not very good) competitor with Whyville like Habbo Hotel or search the net for some other substitute. I guarantee that you won't find anything better.

I take back what I said about posters. I regret not making one, and I'm sorry. Thanks for explaining this to me, Times Editor.
