I bet you're thinking that is article is about how much I hate math. Although I do hate math, that is not the case. Recently I've found that numbers have been running my life. I know this may sound rather crazy, but it's the truth. I'm sure most of you have heard of Instagram, Facebook, Vine, Snapchat, Twitter, and all the other sites and apps out there. All of those are incorporated with numbers.

Let's talk about Instagram. I had instagram for about two months. On the third month I got it taken away. When I first got it I wasn't really sure how to use it, what hashtags were, and what type of pictures were cool to post and what wasn't cool to post. My friend and I posted a picture and I got 5 likes. I was so happy that I got 5 likes. Apparently other people weren't satisfied with my 5 likes, though. My crush commented on the photo and said "Wow!You only got 5 likes #WhatALoser" I immediately texted my friend and asked her how to delete the comment. I was mortified. I had crushed on him for as long as I could remember. I started to follow some of the most popular girls in my city, One of them got over 500 likes on her photo. I was determined to do the same. I started following random people and begging them to follow me. I reached 100 followers in two days. I started to get 20 likes on my photos. I wasn't even close but I wasn't going to give up. I stopped doing homework and everyday chores to take pictures and get more followers. On the third week in on having my Instagram I still was stuck at about 100 followers and only getting 20 likes on my photo. I was so jealous of the popular girls getting 500 likes. They were so pretty . . . That's when it hit me. I just wasn't pretty enough to get 500 likes. I still pushed and pushed to get 500 likes. My parents realized that my homework grades were dropping and none of my chores were being done. They took away my instagram. Looking back I realize how those two numbers made me act in a way I normally wouldn't. I thought I was never good enough.

Later I had my friend look on my instagram and tell me who were the constant people that were liking my pictures. They were all my best friends. I wonder if the popular girls even had true friends. They probably didn't even know the 500 people that liked their photos. What's so satisfying about having random people that you don't know like your photos. I realized that I was okay with those 20 likes. They didn't care if I had the best clothes or the best looks. Those 20 people mean the world to me.

The same goes for Whyville. No, we don't have followers. It's about how many rares you have or how many clams you have.

Do me a favor and try not to focus so much on numbers. They can deceive you. I had 20 likes that were my best friends. That number at the time was tiny. Looking back those 20 people mean A LOT to me. Don't let numbers run your life.
