I walked into school that day, the same as any other day. I went and sit down next to Jannie. He was my best friend since he had moved here a few years back. Everyone made fun of him; said he had a girl's name. But the moment I saw Jannie, I knew he wasn?t like all the other boys around town. No, he was different. He wasn't one of those boys who went around shooting their big mouths off about every single little thing, one of those boys who thought graffiti and tagging was the coolest thing ever. "Hi," and that was how it all started.

I sat down next to Jannie, but he didn't really seem like himself that day. "What's wrong?" I asked him. "I -" that's all he got out before his voice cracked. He seemed to just give up after only one try, at that point, so he put his head down on the desk. I decided he might not want to be talked to at the moment, and got to working on my science. "Taryn, come here please," said Ms. Coltin. I quietly get out of my seat, and walk to Ms. Coltin's desk to see what she wanted. "Is Jannie okay? He's usually on top of his work." she whispered. "I don't know, I tried to see what was wrong but he just put his head down and ignored me." I whispered back.

Break had rolled around, and I caught a glimpse of Jannie. I ran over to him to see if he was okay. Before break Ms. Coltin called him out of the classroom, and then the break bell rang. His eyes were red, but I brushed it off, knowing I shouldn't push him that day. We headed outside to eat our lunch, while we were walking downtown to the coffee shop, he had started to cry. "What's wrong Jannie? You know you can tell me anything." I say. He sat down, and I noticed something. Something was wrong, and very wrong, and at that point I knew what it was.
