Meet Erica and Caleb; best friends since second grade. Caleb was the average punky boy. He has Shaggy brown hair with brown eyes. He always wore skinny jeans, and he wore T-shirts with his favorite bands on it. Erica was the opposite. She had blond hair that anyone would die for. Her green eyes made her even prettier. She wore skirts, jeweled sandals, and girly tank tops. They're both fourteen in the eighth grade. Erica was obsessed with art. Each color was a whole new world to her. On the other hand there was Caleb who could care less about art or colors. Art was just art and colors were just colors. Little did Caleb know, Erica would teach him a lot.
"Caleb look at this flower! Isn't it gorgeous?" Caleb rolled his eyes. He just didn't get it.
"Erica, it's just a flower. Nothing special." Erica stared at him confused.
"Can't you see it? It's the prettiest flower I've ever seen. It looks so white and pure. It's beautiful!" Caleb just smiled. He was in a good mood and didn't want to argue with Erica. She got very defensive when it came to art things. Once Caleb told Erica that her painting was pretty. "Painting? This isn't just a painting. This is an abstract floral painting!"
"Hold on. I want to sketch this!" Caleb was becoming impatient.
"Erica! Come on, we are going to be late for school. You always do this to me. We can't just drop daily responsibilities for art." Erica was sitting on the concrete in front of the flower garden. She sketched quickly, her hand moving in quick little strokes.
"Done! See, that didn't take too long, now did it?" Caleb sighed and they start on for school again. "What's your favorite color?" Erica started to talk about art again. Whenever Caleb talked about Minecraft, the Xbox, or anything that interested him Erica would get frustrated.
"My favorite color is gold. It reminds me of when I find gold on Minecraft."
"There you go again, Caleb. Minecraft this, Minecraft that!" Erica snickered.
"Now you know exactly how I feel when you talk about art!" They reached the school and started their daily ritual. They hugged each other before they went off to class. When they hugged Erica felt a rush go through her. She ignored it, though. It was just a hug from her best friend. Nothing special and nothing new. It was just the usual. She started to walk to class when Caleb called for her. Erica turned around.
"Erica, um, well." Erica was confused. She wondered why he looked nervous. They were so close that they had no reason to be nervous around each other. "I was thinking that me and you could go to the beginning of the year dance together?" Erica looked at him, pondering the whole idea of going to a dance together. She wanted to say yes so bad, but she was scared to. She'd never danced before and why would Caleb want to go to a dance with her? She always thought that Caleb was the cutest guy on earth and that she, well, she was just average. Caleb thought differently. "We can go just as friends." He blurted nervous that she'd say no. "Or we don't have to go together at all. I mean, it was just a thought."
"No, I want to go with you." They smiled at each other and walked to class.
