Next week's topic for The Write For The Whyville Times Contest is . . . acrostic poems! Every week there are poems submitted to the Creative Writing section of the Whyville Times, but I've never seen an acrostic poem submitted before. For those who may not know, acrostic poems involve choosing a word, writing it vertically and making words or sentences beginning with each letter.
For example, if the word I choose is "poem". I could write an acrostic poem like this:
Poetry is powerful
Original and interesting
Evokes emotions
Meaning created in words
As another example, if the word I choose is "music" I could write an acrostic poem like this:
Making
Unbelievable
Sound
In
Concerts
There are many styles of acrostic poems to experiment with and the possible topics to write about are endless. For instance, you could use a person's name, the name of your favorite season or your favorite food.
If you would like to enter for this round, send your acrostic poem in an email to times@whyville.net. Format the subject line like this:
Creative Writing: Your Whyville username, The Name of your acrostic poem.
There is not a need to include a by-line is these types of submissions.
Have fun writing your poems!
Also, thank you to all who have submitted this week. Don't forget to vote for these wonderful writers.
