Author's Note: This is a sequel to a movie, so it would be best if you have seen "Insidious" beforehand. The movie is rated PG-13 due to intense sequences of terror and violence, and thematic elements, so this movie may be inappropriate for unsupervised children under the age of 13. Warning: This article may contain spoilers!
After seeing the first movie, "Insidious", I knew that there was a strong chance that there would be a sequel. My beliefs were confirmed when I saw the trailer for the first time while watching another movie. I can't say I wasn't excited, because I loved the first movie. So I was counting down the days to when I could see it. After arranging times with my friends, I got to see it on September 21.
The movie begins with a median named Carl calling his friend, Elise, to help find out what is wrong with Lorraine Lambert's son, Josh. After the malicious events that took place in the prologue, the three adults, Carl, Elise, and Lorraine, agreed to make Josh forget his out-of-body abilities.
The main story begins 25 years later when Renai, Josh's wife, is in a detective's office for Elise's mysterious death that occurred at the end of the first movie, "Insidious". Not believing that her husband was the killer, Renai and her family decide to reside at Lorraine's home. That's when things start up again.
Lorraine and Renai start to see apparitions of a lady in a white dress whom we later find out is a malicious apparition. While Renai is having trouble with the lady in white, Lorraine visits with some of Elise's old colleagues, Specks and Turner, to seek an explanation for these events. After talking to the two, they call Carl who knows how to contact Elise through word-dice. Later in the movie, you will be revealed that the apparition talking to the four is not Elise.
After being guided to an abandoned hospital, they are guided to Parker Crane's room, a troubled old man who committed suicide years ago. After finding out where he lived, the four broke into the abandoned house and found a black wedding dress and newspaper articles about "The Bride in Black". This particular person was said to have killed several people in the black dress. They put the bits of information together and informed Lorraine, who had recently been physically attacked by an apparition, to get her and her kids away from Josh as soon as possible.
Lorraine tells Renai everything and that Josh is trapped in another dimension called the Further, which is basically a spirit realm. Carl, Specks, Turner, and Lorraine devised a plan to drug the possessed Josh. As the plan moves on, things get eerie and ominous. You can feel that something is about to happen.
What will happen to everyone? Will Josh make it out alive? Will everyone leave unscathed? What exactly happens in the very end? If you haven't seen the movie, I'm sure that you have these questions. To answer these questions, you'll have to see the movie for the best answer. So go ahead and watch it! It's money well spent.
On a scale from one to ten, one being the worst, ten being the best, I give this movie an eight. The horror I was expecting was reached considering it was only rated PG-13. Some of the acting seemed odd from time to time. The camera seemed too shaky here and there. I really liked the plot more than anything. It was very interesting to see how everything unfolds and how everything leads up to one thing after the other. The end of the movie led me to believe that there is a possibility for another Insidious movie. So that gives you plenty of time to watch the first two movies!
