Author's Note: In no way am I trying to offend anyone else's beliefs, or 'shove my religion down your throat.' I've been thinking about writing this for a while, in the most respectful way and I thought a lot of you might be interested. Please do not get offended.
By my previous articles you might've seen that I'm trying to tell people a little bit about Islam. Hopefully it'll clear away all the prejudice and misconceptions. This article is slightly different. You might be surprised to know, the Quran (which is the holy book for Muslims) also contains a lot of Science and History. It's a very interesting scripture written over 1400 years ago and hasn't changed since and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the science in the Quran.
Quran 23:14 - Description of the human embryo.
'Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.'
Just like we believe embryo's are created it's also stated in the holy Quran, 'We made the sperm drop into a clinging clot.' It explains that the sperm from the male 'drops into the clinging clot' which is how a baby is created. It's biological and I believe is linked to what we believe in today about the creation of the human embryo. I believe the Quran is very interesting and logical. This verse also describes how Allah created man, so it also links to religion. It's the same as science describes the creation of the human embryo today.
Quran 78:7- Mountains as pegs holding firm the earth below.
'And the mountains as stakes?'
Here it talks about the mountains, how they are holding firm the earth and a little bit about how firm they stand. 'The mountains as stakes' it moves onto the creation of the mountains and just how they are almost like pegs on the ground. I believe this is also very interesting and again is the exact description of the structure of mountains and hills.
Quran 25:53- The two seas that don't mix in a complete separate flow.
'And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition.'
In this verse it talks about the flow of the sea, it's texture is also salty and bitter. It says the sea doesn't mix it's a complete separate flow. Just like today the sea tastes very salty so the Quran is also linked to the description of the ocean. I find this very interesting and think that it's interesting because it's describing the sea which is exactly the same as today.
Quran 21:33- The planets in orbit.
'And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.'
This is one of my favorite verses. Here it talks about how god created night and day, and how the all the planets orbit the sun. Again it's the same as we believe today, we believe all the planets orbit the sun and we also believe in night and daylight, it states it exactly the same in the Quran. 'In an orbit swimming' here it's talking about all the planets orbiting the sun.
Quran 24:45- The creation of everything from H20.
'Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.'
Here it says how Allah created everything from h20. 'Those who move on their bellies' (slugs, worms etc) 'of those who walk on two legs' (Humans and some animals. 'And those who walk on four,' (animals, insects etc. It says Allah is all mighty and has created all of this, I like how it describes all the living parts.
I hope you've found this interesting, there are a couple more examples in the Quran that I'll mention maybe in another article. As well as science the Quran also contains a lot of stories about the past, Pharaoh, Ancient Egypt, Rome etc. It's a very interesting book and I'd recommend you to read it. The original language is Arabic but you can find English translations. Overall I believe the Quran is an amazing scripture with many fantastic stories and I think it's a miraculous book. Again, this was just pointing out some interesting scientific verses in the Quran. As I said before I'm not trying to offend anyone's beliefs, I'm very much interested in other religions too. Do leave a comment about what you think of the Quran, and please be respectful whilst discussing thing.
Thank you for reading
Eid Mubarak to anyone celebrating next week.
