On February 9th, 1964, 72 million people tuned in to see The Beatles perform for the first time in America for the "Ed Sullivan Show." Girls and boys screamed as the four men performed their opening song, "All My Loving". Soon, girls everywhere were infected by "Beatlemania" and Beatles merchandise were selling like crazy. Lunchboxes, wigs, brooches, buttons, puzzles, bubblegum, and even hairspray! They were chased in the streets and girls even cried to see them (I admit, I probably would be one of them). They ceased performing in concert in 1966, but didn't officially break up until 1970. Even then, they still remain some of the most well-know musicians of all time and all held successful post-Beatles musical careers.
Who are The Beatles, exactly? Well, not only are they four of the hottest men that the world has ever seen (seriously, they're gorgeous), their charm, talent, and catchy songs have certainly made them one of the most well-know bands - ever. If you don't happen to know their names, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist was John Lennon, Paul McCartney also with vocals and bass guitar, George Harrison lead guitarist, and Ringo Starr on the drums. These four lads from Liverpool recorded thirteen studio-albums together and over two hundred songs.
Why am I telling you all this? If you haven't figured out by now, today (Sunday) marks the 50th anniversary of their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.
