Hi! This is HnyBnch. I read ChinaDawl's article on our dictatorship.
I agree with her that it is impossible to elect a president for our
town. We can't always trust our internet friends. Sometimes there are
corrupt presidents in the real world! How can we expect a Whyville
president to be any different?
I was thinking that instead of a president we could have junior
advisors. City Hall and the rest of the city workers do their best to
make Whyville as free as possible. They are so swamped with things,
especially finding sponsors. Maybe there could be a few Whyvillians that
go over the complaints, and send the ones that are most urgent or
important to city hall. This could lighten their load quite a bit I
think.
City Hall or the workers could handpick the few "oldbies" or elders
that think they can handle this task. If we voted on these people it
might become a popularity contest. I think that the ones that joined
Whyville the longest should be a part of this committee. They have the
most knowledge of this site.
This would also show City Hall what problems we want fixed the most
(if you call them problems). She probably gets complaints about the same
things over and over again; this way she will only get one of each
complaint. I think that she will be able to make faster decisions on
things if she does not have to go through the hassle of reading every
single y-mail and email she receives.
Personally, I think Whyville is fine the way it is. This is for those
people who aren't satisfied with this site. Besides, there are better
things to do than go on the internet. This could be one of those sites
just devoted to learning without the added features of chat and games
that teach; don't forget houses! But with this so-called "dictatorship", we get more
than just strict learning. I am grateful for that.
Editor's Note: Good thoughts, HnyBnch! We do expect to eventually create Junior City Workers -- but in the meantime, the Y-Mail Helpers do a whole lot of the tasks you suggest. They handle the vast majority of Y-mail sent towards City Hall, from complaints to clam begging. I want to take this opportunity to thank our Y-Mail Helpers for all their help, from day one to today. Thank you!!
