As many of you know, my husband and I were expecting our first child due July 23rd this year. Well, last Sunday (after I finished publishing the Times) I started feeling a little different. As the night progressed, things got steadily worse, and we realized that I was in fact in labor, 6 weeks early.
It was one of the scariest nights of my life. We knew that 6 weeks early meant that there could be a lot of things wrong with our son. We put our trust and faith in the doctors as they tried to stop the labor. They said they could probably hold it off for 48 hours, they were able to for 24.
Our son, Tyler, was born June 10, 2014 at 3:53pm. He weighed 5lbs 13 ounces and was 20 inches long. For a baby that is 6 weeks early, that is in the 85th percentile for weight and 99th percentile for height. We were so lucky that he did not have any breathing problems, he was crying from the second he was born!
He has been in the NICU since he was born, which has been really hard. Since he is so premature, they want to monitor all of his vital signs until mid this week. I was discharged and have been going back and forth from the hospital with my husband to see him. He's doing really well, and all of the nurses and doctors are very happy with his overall health.
I know it is cliche to say, but you honestly do not understand the love parents have for their children, until you have your own. It is an unexplainable, all-consuming, unconditional love. He is my everything now, and I will do whatever I have to do to give him the best life possible. I know we'll fight, and have some tough times, but in the end he'll always be my sweet baby boy.
So Happy Birthday Tyler! Welcome to the world and the Whyville family. We love you so much.
