This Giggler01, and today I would like to talk to you all about something
that has made me wonder for a very long time. Pick up today's newspaper.
Turn on the TV. Tune into your favorite radio station. Go to a website like
CCN. What do all of these thigns have in common? The News. The headlines.
But what do these things have in common? Violence.
We try so hard to eliminate violence from our everyday lives. We are taught
from a very young age to be nice and respect others. In today's world, at
our age it becomes so hard. Try for one day to be a good person. Someone
will try to stop you. Just for the fun of mocking you. There are entire
groups of people devoted to making this problem stop. But it is always
there. Why?
I think I know the answer to that one. The Media. It's in our headlines. It
makes the good story. There are so many more stories about robberies, and
shootings, and trials. In sports, players getting injured are noted. Do you
notice that none of these things are good things?
So I thought long. I thought hard. And I figure I know the answer. Have you
ever read in the paper, "30 million people in the USA today woke up and went
to work safely"? Why not?
Well, maybe because that doesn't sound very interesting, now does it? I mean,
that sounds like our everyday lives. Heck, I bet a Kindergartner could
write about that. I mean, they get up and go to school. But because we live
in today's world, we think we know what the future will be. Maybe we do. But
if we ignore it, what's the use in knowing?
What we see each day affects someone. Somewhere. Do you see bullying at your
school? Do you know what being a good person honestly, truly and really is?
We write about violence day after day after day. Soon those days turn to
weeks, and weeks to months, and months, they turn into years. And
years, in the long run, are what we remember the best. I mean, when
you are older it will be easier to tell your grandkids what you did in a
certain year than on a certain day. Will these grandchildren of yours know
what a newspaper is?
Our world today, well, it becomes more and more violent. We see bullies
at school, and we hear about murders and terrorists each day. In my mind, it's
not helping. It's making it worse. In the future, violence will be so much a
part of our lives that it won't even be worth writing about. But we live in
the present.
Right now, war and fighting and violence are just there, and you learn to
block it out. When we do read it, it's because it makes the better story,
and because it's what we want to know about. Why? Doesn't it mess with you in a
way, knowing bout these creeps?
They say September 11th wrote a page in history. But really, didn't it write
not one single page, but an entire book? I mean, what does war help in this
situation? All we are doing is teaching the next generation that war is the
right way to solve the world's problems. And, if I am not mistaken, we are
trying to promote peace and justice for all. We aren't getting anywhere.
So try not to promote violence. Wouldn't you like to see the world
improve somewhat? So start right here. Clubs like fight clubs where the
sole purpose it verbally abusing people are pointless. Why waste your energy
on something like that? Do you really have nothing better to do? It's not
worth it. Take my advice, or learn it the hard way like I did.
This is a very confused Giggler01, signing off...
